I want to take a moment to explain some of the ra­tionale for the stories in this issue of our magazine. As you may or may not know, Klipsun is a Lummi word meaning "beautiful sunset," and if you glance over to page 7, you will notice a story dealing with the appropriation of Indian words by environmental groups for non-Indian purposes.

Klipsun Magazine is an example of such appropriation, but it has been the name of this magazine for as long as we can remember. We did not feel it was our place to change the name of the …

It's a time when traditional gender roles are being challenged and society is finally warming to the idea that people, regardless of gender, should be judged on the basis of their character and accomplishments.
