Social Justice: Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
The University of Maine is required to make all of its programs accessible, except where doing so would result in either a fundamental alteration of the nature of the program, or undue financial and administrative burdens. Program access requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act do not require the University to make each existing facility immediately accessible. However, if structural changes in existing facilities are necessary in order to make the programs or services accessible, each changes must be made no later than Jan. 26, 1995.

The Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Committee was charged with identifying resources at the University of Maine that encourage the participation of women in science and engineering, both as students and as faculty; identifying ways to increase the recruitment and retention of women in these areas and recommending ways that the University can support this effort.
Our work has convinced us that this initiative would benefit individual women as well as contributing to the good of the University and society as a whole. We have found that although some departments and programs are more successful than others in addressing …

Using Adult Learning Techniques In Adult Education Conferences, John A. Henschke Edd
IACE Hall of Fame Repository
Conversation abounds regarding the importance of conducing adult education conference through using adult learning techniques which are consistent with what is known about how adults learn. Many professionals already successfully implement this naturally, and experience very positive feedback and results. But many still struggle with the question, "Why don't we practice on ourselves what we say we believe about adult learning?" The question this paper seeks to explore is: Since the field is not very systematic in this, what needs to happen if it is to change? Much published literature suggests various designs and techniques for making the transition, even …

Theses : Honours
The purpose of this study was to develop the Concept Identification Instrument (CII); an instrument for measuring prelinguistically deaf children's concept identification, semantic and syntactic abilities in a reading situation. Analysis of the related literature suggested that isolation of some of the factors which contribute to the problems faced by deaf children in reading development, such as concept identification, may lead to improved chances of understanding, reducing or eliminating reading problems and improving reading outcomes for these children. The subjects were 21 prelinguistically deaf children who attended or had previously attended the Speech and Hearing Centre for Deaf Children (WA) …
