The off-campus credit programs in agriculture at Iowa State University were evaluated to determine the motivation for participation and to gain knowledge of the degree to which participant's needs and expectations were being met. The target population was participants in off-campus credit programs in the College of Agriculture;The Education Participation Scale (EPS) was used to determine the motivation for participation. The EPS has been factor analyzed. The factors were: social contact, social stimulation, professional advancement, community service, external expectations, and cognitive interest. This study identified 92 professional competencies needed by agriculture teachers. All competencies were considered to be of moderate to high importance;The population for this study consisted of agriculture teachers and headmasters of 50 randomly selected schools in Hyderabad Division and all eight teacher educators at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, Pakistan. A 1-5 point scale was used to access the degree of competence needed by agriculture teachers for each of the 92 competencies included in the instrument. Companion birds continue to increase in popularity as pets in the United States. Birds most frequently kept belong to the family psittacidae, or the parrot family. Although domestic breeding of parrots is becoming more widespread, a large number of birds are still imported from outside the United States. By law, these birds must enter the country through quarantine stations. There they spend at least 30 days and are tested for disease and fed food containing tetracycline, an antibiotic. The antibiotic treatment is to hopefully eliminate infections with Chlamydia psittaci, the bacterium that causes psittacosis.

Washing and shearing removes the natural lanolin and suint that protects sheep from getting some diseases. Anyone who shows sheep this summer should be aware of ringworm and a ringworm-like disease that can be transmitted from infected sheep to humans. Acidosis is the most important nutritional disorder in feedlots today. Caused by a rapid production and absorption of acids from the rumen when cattle consume too much starch (primarily grain) or sugar in a short period of time, acidosis causes cattle to be stressed. Crude protein makes up 14 to 19 percent, and carbohydrates 65 to 75 percent of the total ration dry matter in common dairy cow diets. Water runoff is often a problem associated with sprinkler irrigation systems operated on sloping terrain. Soil particles, fertilizers and pesticides can become part of runoff waters and can be moved from their target locations, causing degradation of surface water quality.

Other potential problems associated with runoff include a lack of soil moisture in localized areas of the field, crop nutrient deficiencies, washed-out seeds or plants, and increased irrigation water pumping costs.

Peach leaf curl is a common and widespread disease of peaches. In Nebraska it is found wherever peaches are grown, but it is usually not severe in the drier areas of western Nebraska. The disease is favored by the milder, wetter climate of eastern Nebraska.
