The Southeast region is one of six regions developed for planning purposes by the Division of Comprehensive Psychiatric Services of the Department of Mental Health in the State of Missouri. The region is comprised of 24 counties with a total population of 513,400 persons ; 148,624 of those persons are under the age of 18 . Concerned citizens and mental health providers have been concerned for several years about the lack of special programming for the children and youth throughout the region.
