Teacher self-improvement is a promising approach to explore as schools plan to meet the professional development needs of their staff. In this article we focus on: 1) the basic concept of teacher self-improvement, 2) the relationship between teacher self-improvement and teacher evaluation, 3) the categories of information which can be examined during the self-improvement process, 4) some strategies for teacher self-assessment, 5), the process of planning a teacher self-improvement program, and 6) the role of self-improvement in facilitating school improvement.

How do Deaf children of non-signing parents go about the process of assigning signs to their referents? It seems that much like hearing children, they initially use signs in their everyday conversations that do not always mean the referents they were intended to mean. The findings presented here are the result of six case studies of semantic development over a period of 15 months of children ranging in age from six to sixteen who were raised without sign language and had no instruction in sign language until being placed in a New York City school where sign language was used. …

The purpose of this research was to investigate relationships that may exist between the supervisorial style and conceptual level of university supervisors and the student teachers supervised. The primary thrust of the investigation was an analysis of the match of style and conceptual level of supervisor and students. This analysis resulted in data concerning the influence of the match on supervisor effectiveness. The total population of the study included 187 student teachers and 37 supervisors at two university sites in California.
