Student Achievement In Science And Mathematics In Urban Professional Develpment Schools During First Year Of Implementation, Susan L. Ogletree

Using a quasi-experimental design, the author examined the effects of the Professional Development School Partnerships Deliver Success educational model on student academic achievement in science and mathematics in 12 high-needs, urban elementary, middle, and high schools in the southeastern United States. Student achievement was measured for first to eighth grade students by the State Criterion-Referenced Competency Test and for 11th-grade students by the State High School Graduation Test. 6 ANOVAs were used to compare baseline and year 1 performance data. Advantages And Objections To Charter Schools: Are These Schools Of Value As Schools Of Choice, Kenneth E. Williams

This researcher examined the value of charter schools as viable alternatives to public schools and as schools of choice. A PowerPoint presentation was created in which the researcher analyzes the debate on schools of choice and the issuing authority for charter schools. Highlights of the research include discussions on the advantages of charter schools in relation to: a) students with learning disabilities, b) teachers in charter schools, and c) parental satisfaction. The researcher responds to the most frequently voiced arguments against charter schools and urges support for charter school legislation in states where charter schools are not operating.

This study contributes to the research foundation of academic optimism (Hoy, Tarter & Woolfolk Hoy, 2006) through incorporating the following three aims: to determine the relationship between academic emphasis, collective efficacy, faculty trust in students and parents, and academic optimism to explore the relationship of academic optimism with state student achievement and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) standards and to identify the practices in schools that demonstrate academic emphasis, faculty trust in students and parents, and collective efficacy that comprise academic optimism.
