This social studies curriculum provides educators with the framework for teaching 1st and 2nd graders about the High Line and other New York City parks. It provides the lens for students to explore how parks are used, observe the commonalities among different parks, and investigate the uniqueness of the High Line.

Esta investigación se propuso analizar cómo los textos escolares de Ciencias Sociales de noveno grado han promovido una mirada integradora de la ética del cuidado, para lo cual se basó en los postulados teóricos de la ética del cuidado de Nel Noddings (2009), y los aportes teóricos sobre el texto escolar, a través, de María Victoria Alzate et al.(1999, 2005, 2007, 2009) y Torres y Moreno (2008). Literacy Strategies Successfully Implemented By Secondary Social Studies Teachers, Kelly Killorn

The purpose of this study was to determine which literacy strategies were used by secondary social studies teachers who were identified by their principals as having strong literacy integration skills. In addition, teachers' beliefs and purposes for utilizing said literacy strategies were examined. It was hypothesized that participants would incorporate literacy strategies into their instruction, and would utilize explicit vocabulary instructional methods and graphic organizers most frequently. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from five participants through three 50-minute behavioral observations apiece, followed by a 45-minute focus group discussion. Iwitness And Student Empathy: Perspectives From Usc Shoah Foundation Master Teachers, Brandon Jerome Haas

This qualitative interview study explores the perceptions of five USC Shoah Foundation Master Teachers who integrate IWitness in teaching about the Holocaust. The study focused on the perceptions of teachers as their students interact with survivor and witness testimony in IWitness as well as how IWitness provides a framework for moral education in comparison to other primary sources. Data gleaned from this study demonstrates the influence of personalized learning through testimony-based education on the development of empathy in secondary students.
