Purpose. The purpose of this study was to investigate an instrument, the Cross-cultural Understandings in Multicultural Education (CUME) Assessment, which was devised to measure third grade students' understandings of selected crosscultural/ multicultural concepts. These concepts were derived from a cultural anthropological perspective of human similarities and differences.

Procedures. The study examined the reliability and validity of the CUME Assessment, a multiple-choice, domain referenced test consisting of twenty-one items based on seven instructional objectives. Third grade students, whose teachers indicated on a Teacher Questionnaire having taught these objectives as a part of the formal curriculum, were assessed. Three instruments were administered …

The problem of this study was to determine if a relationship exists between selected personal characteristics of higher education administrators and their perceived levels of power motivation and power style. The techniques of ex post facto research were used in this study. The Power Management Inventory developed by Jay Hall and James Hawker was selected as the appropriate instrument for use in this study. The Power Management Inventory was designed to provide a comparison between one's espoused theory (power motivation) and one's theory in action (power style). The problem of this study was to determine if achievement scores in reading and language arts could be increased for students who participated in the newspapers in education program. Ninety-three seventh grade students were selected for the study; seventy-seven students completed the study, sixteen students were lost due to attrition. Two experimental groups and one control group were selected by random assignment from the seventh grade class at one school. The Metropolitan Achievement Test was administered to all students as a pretest. The problem of this study was to compare the content of principal evaluation instruments in use in Tennessee public school systems in terms of seven selected categories. The selected categories compared were (a) personal qualities, (b) professional skills and qualities, (c) human relations skills and qualities, (d) instructional leader skills and qualities, (e) manager skills and qualities, (f) decision-making skills, and (g) teaching skills. Of the 142 public school systems in Tennessee, 121 utilized a principal evaluation instrument consisting of either a checklist or rating scale. Participative decision-making and morale have been proposed as variables that may significantly affect- the ability of an organization to achieve its end, the educational achievement of its students. One's decisional condition can vary, however: he/she could participate in decisions less than, as much as, or more than he/she preferred. These conditions are labelled decisional deprivation, decisional equilibrium, and decisional saturation. This study tested for significant differences in levels of morale among those three groups. The purpose of this study was to obtain information regarding the best placement of the ninth grade student in the school organizational pattern. Thirty-six superintendents, seventy-seven high school principals and sixty-four high school teachers, in the state of Washington, responded to a questionnaire-opinionnaire regarding the physical, intellectual, emotional and social maturity level of the ninth grade student. The results showed support for the ninth grade student to be in a four-year high school grade configuration.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the degree of influence from various factors on a student's decision to enroll in a food service-related course and whether these factors were affected by post high school graduation plans.

Procedure: Sixty-nine percent of the Regional Occupational Centers/ Programs teachers and one section of students instructed by each teacher completed the survey instruments. The questionnaire items queried the respondents concerning demographic information as well as the degree of influence of various person- and job-related factors.

Purpose. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the relationships that exist between current practices employed by California school districts to provide inservice training for elementary principals and pupil academic achievement. Procedure. The extreme high and low school districts with respect to pupil academic achievement were identified using 1981 district scores and comparison score bands for the California Assessment Program, grade six test. Problem. Since the 1960s there has been increasing interest in the development of social indicators, educational indicators being an important subset of these. Studies in the U.S. and Europe have sought to (1) establish a conceptual framework for educational indicators, and (2) identify indicators useful for economic planning and monitoring the state of education. The need for these indicators in developing countries has also been identified. A hundred philanthropic foundations were surveyed with an aim to find out their attitudes toward the educational growth in the developing countries. This was done in order to have an idea of the percentage that would reply positively that they would consider project proposals seeking funds for continuous educational growth in such countries. Of those that replied to the questionnaires, about 50% replied positively thereby agreeing that they would consider such proposals. Hence those developing countries of Latin America, Asia Minor, and Africa could seek more funds to keep their educational development growing a bit faster.
