Considerable numbers of US secondary students are considered “chronically absent” each year. These students face many obstacles and barriers in which making it to school challenging. Additionally, adverse effects both academically and social/emotionally are observed in those chronically absent as well as their fellow classmates. As a result, there is a great need for education and awareness among parents, guardians, administration, and school staff (teachers, counselors) This project will closely examine literature on chronic absenteeism both in and out of the American Public school setting as well as provide targeted intervention in the form of small group counseling plans as …
