Investigation Of The Relationship Between Children's Language And Teacher-Pupil Interaction, Jerry James Wellik

PROBLEM: It was the purpose of this study to determine the effect of pupil language as measured by the auditory reception and grammatic closure subtests of the Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilities and indirectly by maternal education level on teacher interaction style in dyadic contacts with children.

PROCEDURE: Twenty-one -children age seven through ten were administered the auditory reception and grammatic closure subtests of the Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilities. Maternal education was ascertained from the children's cumulative records. Teacher-pupil interaction for three hours of class time for each child was recorded according to the Flanders' Interaction Analysis Category System. …

The Effects Of Group Systematic Desensitization On The Symptoms Of Primary Dysmenorrhea, Steven Kenneth Reich

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of group systematic desensitization on the symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea in relation to anxiety. The sample consisted of an experimental group of 12 women drawn from the University of New Mexico Student Health Center and the Presbyterian Hospital School of Practical Nursing who were treated in four sessions with group systematic desensitization focused on menstruation, and a control group drawn from the Bernalillo County Planned Parenthood Association not treated with group systematic desensitization. Assessing Some Side Effects Of A Contingency Management Program, Charles M. Atkinson

This study applied a contingency management program to a single behavior while measuring multiple behaviors. Reinforcement was made contingent upon increased addition rate. The experimental group made significantly greater gains in addition rate. There was no significant difference in the gains made in subtraction rate, reading rate, reading comprehension, or classroom behavior. The study was limited by a small sample, six week time span, and the use of mentally retarded subjects to assess side effects of reinforcing an academic behavior.

The present study was designed to evaluate the use of two behavior modification techniques in modifying three inappropriate student behaviors in a secondary classroom. T'he two behavior modification techniques employed were 1) response cost, and 2) the teacher 's use of students' names as discriminative stimuli. The subjects were a D-section Junior English class consisting of fourteen boys and five girls of average intelligence, but who were under­ achieving academically. The thesis of the research is that the States' Right Movement of 1948 in Mississippi helped to create a new political awareness among blacks for the first time since Radical Reconstruction. As a result of the Dixiecrat revolt against Truman and civil rights, blacks in the state became more assertive about their rights and in 1948 organized themselves gradually to demand their civil rights. In response to the Dixiecrat Movement can be found the origins of the civil rights movement of the fifties and sixties.

The Effect Of An Increase Of A Mother's Complimentary Behavior On Her Child's Crying Rate And In-Task School Behavior, Mark Connot

The purpose of the present study was to decrease an eight year old boy's disruptive crying rate in his home by ignoring his negative behavior and selectively complimenting his acceptable behavior. A check in the boy's classroom was made to determine if a generalization effect or transference of positive behavior from the home occurred. Crying behavior in the home was reduced significantly. There was no observed significant change in school behavior.

Evaluation Of The Consistency Of Informants’ Reports For Children’S Ratings With The Progress Assessment Chart, Craig Allen Gilroy

Seven TMR, seven EMR, and seven regular pupils were rated on the P-A-C I by observers who viewed the children in their classrooms or by using parents and teachers as informants. Ratings were compared for consistency between groups and between raters by means of percent agreement figures and proportional t tests. Few significant differences were found between raters within groups. Significant differences were found in the majority of the cases when parent, teacher, and observer ratings of handicapped and regular children were compared.

The Effect Of A Learning Skills Course Including Group Counseling On Low Achievers In The Community College, Paul E. Borg

A Learning Skills course consisting of study skills, goal direction, and self-understanding was tested among volunteer community college low achievers. Treatment integrated didactic, group discussion, and affective experiences in 18 hour-long sessions. Nineteen subjects received treatment; 25 subjects formed a matched control group; and 41 non-volunteers formed two additional control groups. An apparent trend toward GPA improvement was noted for all groups, but all measurements on GPA and a study survey were non-significant.
