The purpose of this study was to investigate the congruence of perceptions of ideal and real leadership behavior of principals in Catholic elementary and high schools located in the Archdiocese of Detroit. The Leadership Behavior Description Questionnaire (Halpin, 1957a), (LBDQ) developed through the College of Administrative Sciences at Ohio State University, was used. An instrument developed by the researcher was used to collect data on age, gender, experience and religious or lay status of principals and teachers.

The relationship between social workers' attitudes toward the elderly and personal contact with older persons was investigated utilizing a sample survey research design. The assessment instrument included The Aging Semantic Differential (Rosencranz & McNevin, 1969) to measure attitude and an intergenerational contact measure developed and field tested for the study. A causal comparative study was conducted to test the relationship between absenteeism and the amount of overtime worked in various job classifications. The study was conducted in a metal stamping plant. The 4.5-year study tested absence percentage data for the three classifications of skilled, service, and nonskilled employees. The study supported the hypothesis that there is a relationship between absenteeism and job classification. The study could not support either a relationship between the amount of overtime worked and absenteeism or a relationship between the interaction of job classification and overtime worked on the absentee rate. The interrelationship of clinical supervision and peer coaching strategies to improve instructional effectiveness were studied. A peer coaching in-service program, detailing coaching procedures and activities, was developed and implemented in the social studies department at Mount Si High School. The results of the program showed that peer coaching can be utilized by teachers to assume greater leadership and responsibility in the area of instructional improvement.

Based on the review of the literature and research, the relationship of school learning climate and student achievement is explored. Common ideological, organizational, and leadership factors characteristic of high-achieving, "effective" schools are identified and their relationships examined. Ideological factors identified are: 1) A belief that all students are expected by staff to reach high levels of achievement; 2) A belief that individual and school-wide performance on achievement tests is an appropriate goal and measure of school effectiveness; and 3) A belief that self-concept is an important factor in student achievement. This study examined the effectiveness of an educational service district's programs and services as perceived by various educator groups. The population of the study included certificated public school employees and school board members.

A sixty-two item survey instrument was used to obtain information from the study population. Of the 1507 survey instruments distributed, 769 instruments were returned for a response rate of 51%.

Problem. No study had been undertaken to examine any relationships which might exist between the two concepts of perceived leader authenticity and the perceived instructional leadership behaviors of middle-level principals.

Method. This ex post facto study obtained data from three groups--supervisors, principals, and teachers--via their responses to two questionnaires: the Leader Authenticity Scale and the Principal Instructional Management Rating Scale. A total of 247 of the teachers, all 10 of the supervisors, and all 10 of the principals returned the surveys.
