We are writing to inform you about an important policy update. UMaine’s Policy and Procedures on Alleged Misconduct in Research and Other Scholarly Activities (Policy) was last revised in 2006. Application of the Policy in recent years highlighted the need for a comprehensive review. This comprehensive review identified areas where the Policy needed improvement to be more easily understood and administered and in line with current best practices.

Since 1982, in recognition of the mission of public service at the University of Maine, the President has annually presented the Presidential Public Engagement Achievement Award to an individual University of Maine faculty or staff member who has demonstrated distinguished achievement in public engagement as part of their university work. Tenured UMaine and Cooperative Extension faculty, full-time lecturers (in their sixth year of service or beyond), and staff (in their sixth year of service or beyond) are eligible for this award.

The Steve Gould Award was created in 1981 by the family and friends of Steve Gould in memory of "a man of honest and passionate concern for others." The award is to be made to those who have, by their conduct, demonstrated superior qualities of unselfishness and compassion in the course of service to the University and its ideals. Students, staff, faculty members and organizations serving the University of Maine are eligible for this award. Those involving in acts of heroism may also be nominated.

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) program was suspended by the Chancellor of the University of Maine System on March 2, 2011. The suspension was based on a recommendation by the Academic Program Prioritization Working Group (APPWG) and a decision by the President of the University of Maine. The MPA program was housed in the Department of Public Administration. Following the suspension, no new students were admitted into the program. A plan was put in place to teach out required Public Administration classes and allow students who at the time were in the program to finish it, assuming normal progress …

General correspondence regarding Western Kentucky University. Incoming letters are mainly addressed to Henry Hardin Cherry. Responses are made by Cherry and occasionally by faculty and staff. The president's secretary Mattie McLean is the writer for some of the letters signed by Cherry.
Some of Cherry's personal papers are also found in this series most notably those pertaining to his political aspirations and two candidacies for the Kentucky governorship. Copies of outgoing correspondence begin to appear in Box 1, Folder 50.

Robert A. Kennedy became the interim president of the University of Maine on Aug.15, 2004. A plant biochemist with a long and distinguished scholarly career, Kennedy has held academic leadership positions at some of the nation's most prestigious universities. He has been at UMaine since July 2000, serving first as Vice President for Academic Affairs. One year after his arrival, he was promoted to the position of Executive Vice President and Provost.

The Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Committee was charged with identifying resources at the University of Maine that encourage the participation of women in science and engineering, both as students and as faculty; identifying ways to increase the recruitment and retention of women in these areas and recommending ways that the University can support this effort.
Our work has convinced us that this initiative would benefit individual women as well as contributing to the good of the University and society as a whole. We have found that although some departments and programs are more successful than others in addressing …

Social Justice: Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
The major findings of the Task Force on the Status of Women are summarized in the following pages in two parts. In the first we respond to our charge to review data concerning the current status of women in relation to their numbers, distribution, retention, compensation, advancement, and representation at all levels. The evidence here consists primarily of information the University routinely collects and analyzes; the data are reasonably complete and accurate. They also indicate clearly the presence of barriers to the full participation of women in the life of the University.
