Taking “Stock” Of Pedagogical Content Knowledge In Science Education, Harcharan Pardhan, Alan Wheeler

This article focuses on efforts of facilitate the development of MEd science students' conceptual understanding of content, pedagogy and pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). A basic premise of the approach taken was that to teach conceptually, students must learn conceptually. A four-step conceptual process was followed with the participants to help them actively construct knowledge about fundamental science concepts and enhance their confidence and enthusiasm for science teaching. Equivalent forms of an assessment instrument entitled the Science Test of Content Knowledge (STOCK), used as per- and post-performance measures, revealed a significant difference. Barbara Reed, now in her eighties, is an individual who, for over fifty years, has been a leader in both children's drama and storytelling (for children and adults). It is because of her tenacious love of the performing arts that they flourish—albeit in some places more than others-for us today. Although significant critical attention has been directed toward understanding Eustacia Vye’s death in Hardy’s The V^tum of the Native (1878), substantially less has been paid to the other corpse fished from Shadwater Weir, Damon Wildeve. I feel the reasons behind his death remain largely unexplored. Damon and Eustacia, in many ways so similar to one another, meet an identical end beneath the waters of the drainage pool. No small critical effort has been directed towards understanding Eustacia Vye’s death, be it simple suicide, narcissistic death wish (Mitchell), pagan necessity (Giordano), or punishment for gender transgression Deen).
