As we celebrate the beginning of summer, we pause to reflect on the changes, successes, and collaborations of this past academic year.

In January, we welcomed Francis Origanti as the interim Vice President for the Mission Integration department and are assisting with the search of Executive Director for the department as well. Additionally, Arlete Perez Paez was promoted to Assistant Director; the office also will be hiring a fulltime Coordinator for Community Partnerships in time for start of the new academic year.

Early in the fall semester, we welcomed Colin Petramale to the VP&SL team as the new Coordinator for Community Partnerships, Faith and Justice! Colin manages the frst year Pioneer Service Grant program, in addition to building and maintaining the relationships with our of-campus community partners.

We strengthened the commitment to our partners by on boarding with GivePulse, our community engagement tracking sofware. Nonproft organizations receive free access through their afliation with SHU, allowing them to publicize partnership opportunities; SHU students, staff and faculty can connect with these partners by searching and signing up for upcoming activities. From the Introduction:

The public health program began in the fall, 2018. The public health program has only one degree offered, a master’s of public health (MPH) degree with a concentration in community health. The program was developed in response to an observed need. Specifically, Sacred Heart undergraduate students in both the Health Science and Exercise Science undergraduate programs were asking for an MPH program that they could matriculate into after graduating from their undergraduate studies. It has been an "unprecedented" year for the Office of Volunteer Programs & Service Learning! Although this year looked very different as we navigated safety regulations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the office was still busy with ongoing and new programs. VP&SL was involved in creating the SHU Shares initiative, a student-led program designed to address food insecurity on campus. For the year ending June 30, 2021, the University again demonstrated positive results and operated with a balanced budget. Net tuition and fee revenue grew by 5% over prior year, reflecting the continued growth in the student population. Total net assets increased by $105 million, which represents more than a 29% increase over prior year and a 49% increase over the last three years. In addition, the University has maintained solid long-term bond ratings with Standard & Poor’s (A) and Moody’s (A3). HSHU’s PILLARS OF PROGRAMMING: HSHU aims to mitigate opportunity disparities faced by Bridgeport families in a county with the largest opportunity gap in the nation. Our organization provides support and empowerment to 168 Bridgeport students through three powerful pillars of programming. These pillars include a K-8 six-week summer program, a K-8 school year program, and a high school program offered in partnership Horizons Bridgeport. Each pillar provides equitable opportunities that include joyful academic and social-emotional learning, and establishing citizenship within community.
