One look at the credentials of the 1986-87 Maine hockey team gives you the impression that this is a program on the rise. Only a handful of NCAA teams can boast having 10 NHL draft picks on their roster, seven of which have been selected in the last two drafts.

The nucleus of the 1986-87 Black Bears is made up of underclassmen, as 19 players on the 28-man roster have yet to reach their junior year. "We are in the situation now where our predominant classes will be the freshmen and sophomores," says head coach Shawn Walsh.

"Homophobia," the fear of homosexuality, is a major obstacle which inhibits universities from acknowledging the needs of the homosexual portion of their communities, a speaker for the Women In Curriculum program said last week.
