Dr. Jane Chu, a lifelong daughter of Ouachita Baptist University, returned to her alma mater Sept. 27 to present this semester’s Birkett Williams Lecture. Dr. Chu, a 1979 OBU alumna and chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, addressed the issue of “National Endowment for the Arts: Supporting the Arts and Creativity in American Communities.”

Ouachita Baptist University will host OBU alumna Jane Chu, chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, to present the Birkett Williams Lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in OBU’s McBeth Recital Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Each semester, the Birkett Williams Lecture Series rotates among Ouachita’s seven academic schools. Ouachita’s School of Fine Arts will host Chu’s lecture, “The National Endowment for the Arts: Supporting the Arts and Creativity in American Communities.”

Ouachita Baptist University recently hosted retired U.S. Ambassador David Greenlee as a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow. During his stay April 4-6 Greenlee led discussions in both honors and faculty colloquiums, spoke in several classes and presented the Birkett Williams Lecture.

The Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellows, a program which brings prominent and diverse professionals to college campuses, coordinated Greenlee’s visit. Greenlee served as U.S. ambassador to Bolivia (2003-06) and Paraguay (2000-03) and spent a total of 32 years in foreign service.
