The University of Maine men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are prepared to make another run at the America East Championships in the 2000—2001 season. A young and talented Black Bear team will seek to build on a solid core group of returners with the addition of a strong group of first-year swimmers and divers. Head Coach Jeff Wren begins his 11th campaign and is joined for the third consecutive season by assistant coaches Mark Babin and diving coach Jaret Lizzotte. Past Black Bear standout Susie Herrick enters her second year on Coach Wren’s staff.

Head coach Sue Medley is all smiles when she describes her second-year volleyball team. “It’s a whole new ball game,” she says. And in many ways it is just that. Last year, the Black Bears returned to the hardwood of Memorial Gymnasium for their first season since the program was disbanded following the 1983 season. It was a whole new ball game already. Last season was the first season of volleyball at the University of Maine since the program lost its varsity status following the 1983 season.
