Umaine Eoc Receives Inaugural Black Bear Award For Extraordinary Impact, Margaret Nagle

This spring, the University of Maine established the Black Bear Award for Extraordinary Impact, focused on recognizing an individual or group that goes above and beyond in performance excellence. Such positive impact is "deep, significant and lasting," and is reflected campus wide and beyond in the quality of the student and employee experience. The inaugural recipient of the Black Bear Award for Extraordinary Impact is the UMaine Emergency Operations Center, which since February 2020 has provided and coordinated COVID-19 response for the UMaine and UMM communities.

Red Gendron, University of Maine Men's Ice Hockey Coach, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly after experiencing a medical condition. He was 63 years old.

"Words cannot express our deep sadness from t he tragic, sudden loss of Red Gendron," says UMaine Director of Athletics Ken Ralph. "Our community and the entire UMaine Athletics family mourn the loss of Coach Gendron and we ask you all to keep him, his family, his friends, and our hockey staff and student-athletes in your thoughts through this agonizing time."

The 15-page Resource Guide for Maine Families, Schools, and Communities: Integrated Multi-Tiered Systems of Support provides family-friendly descriptions of services, information on how to access them, and outlines how to navigate the various supports in Maine.
