We are requesting funds to support a Franco-American Film Festival, "Francos in Flim." We will hold this festival at the Franco-American Centre. We intend to screen at least three films, each about a different Franco community in Maine. Two of the filmmakers are from Maine; one is from Montreal. We will reach out to Maine Studies, The Canadian American Center, and the English department to connect with students and faculty interested in Maine, migration, and documentary filmmaking. We also will schedule this film festival during our annual writers and artists gathering that we normally hold in Walpole but this year …

Yarmosky's most recent compositions deal specifically with his grandmother's diagnosis of dementia and Alzheimer's along with the physical and psychological transformation brought on by the disease. The powerful works featured at UMMA and the accompanying educational programs will inspire a vigorous dialogue related to elder and Alzheimer care. Through the voices of the featured artist, caregivers, citizens and the medical community, both …

The Lipstick Project, The University Of Maine Honors College
Cultural Affairs Distinguished Lecture Series
Leigh Boyle will share her story of The Lipstick Project, which grew out of her 2010 volunteer work in a women's hospital in Northern Ethiopia. The hospital cares for women with obstetric fistula, a condition resulting from prolonged, obstructed labor that leaves women chronically incontinent and ostracized. Leigh began giving weekly manicures to the isolated women, an act that proved life-giving for all. Upon returning home to Vancouver, Leigh saw similar need for restorative work in modern healthcare and established The Lipstick Project, a woman run volunteer organization that provides free, professional spa treatments to people in hospice and hospitals …
