Dynamic balance performance of young children (ages 4, 6, and 8) was assessed in
three social situations: alone (only with tester present); coaction (one other child performing
at the same time); and spectators (five other observer children present). Within each age
and gender, children (N = 120) were classified as of higher or lower comparative skill.
Each balance task performed (walking forward and backward on a line, a narrow beam
or a wide beam) was classified as representing easier or more difficult tasks for each
child individually. Findings (p < .05) indicated that the facilitation effects of social
situations strengthened …

Fnma Mortgage Commitments As Put Options: An Empirical Examination, Thomas Berry, Adam Gehr

The Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA) auctions commitments to purchase mortgages. An examination of the terms of the commitment contract shows that these commitments are actually put options on mortgages. The contract is unusual, however, in that the price of the commitment is a fixed percentage of the value of the mortgages. In the auction, the dealers effectively bid the exercise price at which they would be willing to pay the fixed commitment price. In this paper, we study the economics of the FNMA auction. An International Exchange Program: Self-Esteem Building And Relationship Development For Youth And Staff, Norman Powell, Tony Maciocia

Troubled youth can manage, and benefit from, short intensive relationship-centered experiences. This article reports on an innovative staff and client exchange program involving groups from Montreal, Quebec and Washington, D.C. Such experiences, as well as enhancing the youths' cultural awareness and self-esteem, provide exciting staff-development opportunities.
