This initial exploration into student perceptions and desired outcomes of international student exchanges and collaboration provides a snapshot in time of the thoughts on two small groups of students: Polish students studying in Chicago, IL in the US and Bosnian students using technology to interact with an American professor in the US. This paper can provide discussion prompts to address the specific interests of students for those academics involved student exchanges as well as those using technology to link students beyond geographic boarders.

This study analyses the system of Spanish publicly-subsidised private schools from the perspective of its contribution to the equalisation of opportunities in school choice. The theoretical framework is based on the contributions of researchers into school choice policies, while the empirical application uses a 2005 questionnaire answered by the final-year secondary school students of the Spanish region of Aragon. We conclude that the system of Spanish publicly-subsidised private schools has not entirely facilitated the integration of students from different socioeconomic strata. A probit model is estimated in the last section in order to discover which factors determine the choice of …

Six years after Brazilian universities began embracing affirmative action, higher education in Brazil is no longer the domain of a mostly white elite. Since 2003 more than 1,300 institutions of higher education have adopted quotas for AfroBrazilians and graduates of public high schools. The government has also created 10 public universities and dozens of new campuses in poor areas in an effort to expand access to higher education for the underprivileged. But the debate over the quota system—racial quotas in particular—continues to inflame passions in a country that has long considered itself a racial democracy.

Creativity is the driver of innovations and advancement in any human society. Educational institutions have a major role to play in fostering creativity in their students by creating environment that is challenging and supportive for the teachers and the students. This work, using a survey design, identifies and assesses the level of climate for creativity in the secondary schools in Awka South Local Government of Anambra State. El presente reporte es parte de un trabajo mayor de investigación realizado en una universidad pública estatal mexicana y cuyo objetivo era caracterizar la cultura académica en diferentes campos profesionales. Se presentan aquí los resultados asociados a la trayectoria profesional y académica en el área disciplinaria del Derecho. La información pertinente se obtuvo mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas que bordaron diversos procesos informados por los entrevistados sobre su trayectoria laboral. The emergence of the Janjaweed as an armed force working with the government to suppress rebellions in Darfur region outraged the international community. They were marked by brutality, destruction, burning, killings and mass rapes. They were also described as Arabs. However, that was not the whole picture, no one observed the living conditions of the Arabs or how were they victims also as the other inhabitants of Darfur. The communicative language teaching approach has had a significant impact on the teaching of grammar. In general, the communicative approach, and its objective of communicative competence, has led to a diminished role for grammar teaching. However, of late, numerous voices have advocated a more prominent role for grammar in achieving this objective. As a result, various broad approaches as well as specific techniques have been suggested in teaching grammar to English as a Second language students.
