The purpose of this personal experience as a narrative investigation is to describe how an auditory processing learning disability exacerbated—and how spirituality and religiosity relieved—suicidal ideation, through the lived experiences of an individual born and raised in the United States. The study addresses: (a) how an auditory processing learning disability affected the primary participant’s view of life as a child, adolescent, and young adult, (b) how religiosity and spirituality helped to reframe that outlook after a near-fatal suicide attempt, and (c) how spirituality and religiosity serve to moderate the primary participant’s current view of life. Children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD)often demonstrate behaviors that can impact their academic performance in the classroom. The use of a behavior support system may decrease the occurrence of problematic behaviors while increasing desired behaviors that will allow students with ASD to be successful in school. Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) is grounded in the theory of behavior support using incentives to motivate desired behaviors while inadvertently modifying challenging behaviors.

Audiologists working with/in school settings write reports, communicating assessment results and recommendations. Yet there is a gap in education and professional development regarding report-writing and the effects reports can have on children and interprofessional relationships. This article highlights the ways that the linguistic and visual construction of reports affect possibilities for children and inter-sector collaboration among clinicians, school-based professionals, and families.

How do individuals maintain a sense of efficacy and purpose in the face of high levels of ambiguity and uncertainty? In research on medical uncertainty, sociologists often discuss the strategies health practitioners employ to control uncertainties relating to diagnosis and treatment. Over six months of ethnographic fieldwork at an autism school, we observed 75 students and 47 instructors, and formally interviewed ten instructors and four parents. Schools today face the challenge of providing appropriate services to a diverse and increasingly numerous student population diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Epidemiological research indicates a progressively rising prevalence trend for ASD over the past decade. Recent studies indicate that the prevalence rate for autism spectrum disorders (ASD) is 78% higher than just 10 years ago. The most recent report from U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 1 in 88 school-age children have an autism spectrum disorder. The Individuals with Disabilities Educational Act (IDEA) requires that states receiving federal funds provide a Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE) to students with disabilities. Failing to provide a FAPE is discriminatory under the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, the Rehabilitations Act (RA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The IDEA provides remedies to correct inadequacies with compensatory but does not provide compensatory damages. This survey research studied integration and innovation in early childhood education and implications for quality teacher preparation. The study was a descriptive survey research, with one hundred and twelve (112) sampled preschool teacher. Eight research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. Early Childhood Programme Instrument on Integration and Innovation (ECPAI) was constructed, validated and used in eliciting responses from the respondents. The data collected were analyzed using percentage, mean, and Paired Sample tests.
