Educating And Transforming The Future Public Health Workforce: Lessons Learned From Developing & Implementing An Innovative, Interdisciplinary Mph Graduate Course For Public Health Practice, Leah Neubauer, Kristin Jacobson

Leah C. Neubauer

The Affordable Care Act allocated $250 million in 2010 for disease prevention via four critical priorities, including Public Health Training and Research & Tracking. Public health educators in academia have an opportunity to reexamine and reconstruct educative preparations for public health workers to adequately identify and address the environmental, social, and behavioral issues that impact health across the life span. Public health professionals are obligated to consider the larger political, social, and economic implications forces surrounding their work to affect the largest possible positive outcomes in communities ' health. This presentation will highlight the establishment of a graduate MPH course …

Dr Williams Emeka Obiozor

Community-based organizations (CBOs), Village Education Committees (VECs), NGOs, Town Association members are challenged to ensure that all adult learners experience coherent and engaging Non-Formal Education at the Adult literacy centers established in their communities. Our approach to the adult classroom must be developed with a clear understanding of: Who our adult learners are; Their felt needs & educational goals; Their patterns of participation and learning styles, And their expectations. The training materials provides us with details for effective facilitation and supervision as well as advocacy for more adult learner enrollment and management by the stakeholders.

Are Teacher Education Programs Failing The Nation’S Urban Schools? A Closer Look At Pre-Service Teachers’ Beliefs About Working With Inner-City Students, Servet Celik Oct 2012

Are Teacher Education Programs Failing The Nation’S Urban Schools? A Closer Look At Pre-Service Teachers’ Beliefs About Working With Inner-City Students, Servet Celik

Servet Celik

To address the issue of pre-service teachers being under-prepared for work in multicultural and impoverished environments in America’s urban schools, teacher education programs have taken steps to improve diversity-oriented curricula and provide relevant fieldwork experience. However, research indicates that a large proportion of teacher candidates still do not have the necessary skills to deal with students from divergent upbringings. This interpretive study investigated the beliefs of pre-service teachers about urban students and how well their teacher education programs are addressing the issues of working in inner-city schools. The results revealed that, although some progress has been made, a significant gap …

Fibromyalgie, Douleur Et Fasciathérapie, Cyril Dupuis, Danis Bois

Danis Bois

The Human Computer Interaction Issues Associated With The Creation Of Personalized Role Playing Simulations, Eileen O'Donnell, Catherine Mulwa, Mary Sharp, Vincent Wade

Eileen O'Donnell

The human computer interaction issues associated with the creation of personalized role playing simulations are discussed in this paper. This paper is aimed at those who are interested in building authoring applications which enable educators to build role playing simulated e-learning resources to use with their students. One of the main issues which have come to our attention is that many learning designers and educators do not understand what exactly it is we are trying to achieve by creating personalized role playing simulations. Also, how to gauge the pedagogic merits which can be achieved by using these e-learning resources. Potential …

Approximate Solution Of Fractional Integro-Differential Equations By Taylor Expansion Method, Li Huang Jan 2011

Approximate Solution Of Fractional Integro-Differential Equations By Taylor Expansion Method, Li Huang

Li Huang

In this paper, Taylor expansion approach is presented for solving (approximately) a class of inear fractional integro-differential equations including those of Fredholm and of Volterra types. By means of themth-order Taylor expansion of the unknown function at an arbitrary point, the linear fractional integro-differential equation can be converted approximately to a system of equations for the unknown function itself and its m derivatives under initial conditions. This method gives a simple and closed form solution for a linear fractional integro-differential equation. In addition, illustrative examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method.

The Use Of Music To Teach Life Skills To Students With Emotional Disabilities In The Classroom, Dr Williams Emeka Obiozor Jan 2010

The Use Of Music To Teach Life Skills To Students With Emotional Disabilities In The Classroom, Dr Williams Emeka Obiozor

Dr Williams Emeka Obiozor

This paper discusses the teaching of life skills to urban American youths who are highly fascinated with the hip-hop culture—songs, raps, miming, lyrics, dressing and musical rhythms, especially individuals with emotional disabilities in the public schools. This is an instructional curriculum strategy to encourage positive and active participation of these students, promote perfect school attendance, encourage good behaviors, deal with anger management and motivate committed learning in the classroom. The instructors’ understanding of students’ culture, learning needs and styles, and using such background knowledge to educate them become imperative in this setting. These urge for innovative and leadership projects in …

Language And Graffiti Of Exceptional Individuals In West Africa, Dr Williams Emeka Obiozor

Dr Williams Emeka Obiozor

This paper establishes the place of language and graffiti practiced by exceptional individuals in the interpretation of family values, the preservation of culture and traditional heritage of the Igbo community in Southeastern Nigeria. The paper also takes a cursory look at graffiti art and exceptionality in a time when the Igbo tradition and culture were highly respected, jealously guarded and deep-rooted in the heart and soul of its people. Graffiti creations by exceptional individuals transfer both oral and visual education to documented tradition; for societal knowledge and awareness, individual wisdom, expressions against repression, pride and recognition of Igbo language and …

Approximate Solution Of Abel Integral Equation, Li Huang Jan 2008

Approximate Solution Of Abel Integral Equation, Li Huang

Li Huang

This paper presents a new, stable, approximate inversion of Abel integral equation. By using the Taylor expansion of the unknown function, Abel equation is approximately transformed to a system of linear equations for the unknown function together with its derivatives. A desired solution can be determined by solving the resulting system according to Cramer’s rule. This method gives a simple and closed form of approximate Abel inversion, which can be performed by symbolic computation. The nth-order approximation is exact for a polynomial of degree up to n. Abel integral equation is approximately expressed in terms of integrals of input data; …

A New Abel Inversion By Means Of The Integrals Of An Input Function With Noise, Li Huang Jan 2007

A New Abel Inversion By Means Of The Integrals Of An Input Function With Noise, Li Huang

Li Huang

Abel’s integral equations arise inmany areas of natural science and engineering, particularly in plasma diagnostics. This paper proposes a new and effective approximation of the inversion of Abel transform. This algorithm can be simply implemented by symbolic computation, and moreover an nth-order approximation reduces to the exact solution when it is a polynomial in r2 of degree less than or equal to n. Approximate Abel inversion is expressed in terms of integrals of input measurement data; so the suggested approach is stable for experimental data with random noise. An error analysis of the approximation of Abel inversion is given. Finally, …
