Jurnal Civics: Media Kajian Kewarganegaraan
The government has attempted to realize nation and character-building based on Pancasila values through a systemic and planned national education system. However, students' understanding, skills, and actualization of Pancasila values still experience various obstacles, one of which is literacy. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the role of the Pancasila ideology through increasing ideological literacy among students. This research aims to uncover challenges and strengthen the role of the Pancasila ideology through increasing literacy. The approach used in this research is qualitative with a literature review method using inductive and descriptive analysis. The research findings found that the challenges of …

Fighting Alone: The Lived Experiences Of African Women Immigrant Farmers Acquiring Land In The U.S., Willis Ochieng, Damilola Ajayi
Journal of International Agricultural and Extension Education
The study adopted phenomenology to understand the lived experiences of African Women Immigrant Farmers (AWIFS) acquiring land in the U.S. Seven participants were interviewed through semi-structured interviews. The study found that AWIFs acquire land from friends, and organizations serving immigrants, including government agencies. AWIFS also partners with spouses or close relatives to purchase agricultural land. Nonetheless, AWIFS experiences numerous challenges such as limited social networks which restrict access to land-related information. Other challenges include a lack of knowledge of American land structures and tenure systems, financial challenges, and stringent funding requirements. To overcome such barriers, AWIFS, engage in expanding their …

Presidents And Student Success: Repositioning To A Student-Centered Institution, Charles P. Ruch, Kenneth M. Coll, Cathleen B. Ruch
Journal of Research on the College President
Now reopened following the pandemic, each institution is in the process of assessing its impact and adjusting its institutional model to assure sustainability in the future. Returning totally to the ‘status quo ante’ is not a viable option as some repositioning is required. This study highlights three critical elements that inform this process from the perspective of the presidency. First, significant environmental trends and their impact are presented. Upon analysis, improved student success emerges as a critical driving force in repositioning. Second, an overview of successful institutional programs and initiatives that foster a student-centered institution are examined concluding with a …

Keynote: Notions Of Writing Center Community And Some Challenges To Them, Carol Severino
Keynote: Notions Of Writing Center Community And Some Challenges To Them, Carol Severino
Writing Center Journal
It is crucial for writing center professionals who discuss community to ask ourselves what we mean by the term as applied to writing centers. In this keynote, I explore various notions of community that are influenced by writing center growth, expansion, and complexity, especially in relation to Iowa’s writing center. After relating a personal story about our new tutors’ traditional notion of community and an account of our own center’s expansion and growing complexity over the decades, which challenges their traditional notion, I discuss other obstacles to community, bringing in the critiques of writing center scholars. Finally, I synthesize what …
