ICOT 18 - International Conference on Thinking - Cultivating Mindsets for Global Citizens
From Head to Head or Heads Together? offers an interactive workshop sharing effective evidence-based pedagogical approaches to Information Literacy (IL) in the early years, particularly in redressing disadvantage. IL skills are 21st Century skills needed by children and families to ensure inequities are challenged. Being able to find, evaluate and apply information for personal benefit is a key attribute in today's knowledge economy. IL goes beyond developing functional skills to creating attributes that enable lifelong learning. However, simply having access to digital technologies and online resources does not always equate to developing these attributes.

Being motivated by the need to address the challenges of our Volatile Uncertain Complex Ambiguous world, we strive to create tools to improve people’s lives and help them become more resilient, resourceful, self-confidant, and successful.
In a digital world, we must understand how to efficiently connect to digital systems. Connecting “with AI” doesn’t mean spending more time on digital devices, but spending time in a deliberate way with purpose and intentional learning outcomes.
As a society, we want to see graduates with emotional intelligence and reflective skills in order to address global economic and social issues. As for jobs …

ICOT 18 - International Conference on Thinking - Cultivating Mindsets for Global Citizens
The objective of this workshop is to guide participants to reflect about how their beliefs related to social justice and critical literacy influence their actual teaching practices as early childhood educators. The second purpose is to support participants with the creation of a plan to include critical literacy as part of their teaching practices in their classrooms. An essential goal of early childhood education should be to support young children to become aware of inequalities in society and to question the stereotypes that they have been exposed to while growing up. These goals can be reached by using children´s literature …

This free, international, online learning experience aims to democratize the opportunity for teachers to bring critical thinking through art to their students around the world. Participants will experience a combined onsite/online demonstration of one of their MOOC modules by, first, engaging with a work of art, using an Artful Thinking routine; …

ICOT 18 - International Conference on Thinking - Cultivating Mindsets for Global Citizens

The ultimate goal of the project is to enhance people’s understanding how to apply a variety of thinking tools in multiple contexts.

ICOT 18 - International Conference on Thinking - Cultivating Mindsets for Global Citizens
Most would agree that teaching is demanding work that requires teachers to know something and to think. While it is generally assumed that teachers should think deeply about their subject matter, the myriad ways teachers might draw upon thinking to understand children and pedagogy is less understood. This interactive session applies recent scholarship on the development of dispositional thinking in children to a teacher education context. It invites participants to explore how dispositional thinking can be developed in the context of a course designed to teach reading and writing methods. Discussion will be prompted using provocations designed to develop dispositional …

Abstract: This informative and interactive teaching symposium posits the Positive Peer Leadership Mentoring Program (PPLM) as an evidence-based wrap-around service for youth and families in Miami-Dade who are involved in the school-to-prison pipeline. Presenters first provide information to initiate the dialogic process of discerning and interpreting the school-to-prison pipeline, impacted by costs of incarceration for Black youth and families and the move toward effective mental health services in the juvenile justice system. Then, participants experience an interactive pedagogical mentoring format set forth in PPLM as the first step toward transforming the school-to-prison pipeline in their own classroom or other educational …
