Instructional Strategies Teachers Use To Assist Students With Convergence Insufficiency In Notetaking, Jennifer Wiggins-Lambert
Instructional Strategies Teachers Use To Assist Students With Convergence Insufficiency In Notetaking, Jennifer Wiggins-Lambert
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Two to three students per class suffer from visual-motor deficits such as convergence insufficiency. Though there are treatment plans to assist with the disability over time outside of the school, there are no general inventions set in place in the public school system to assist visual-motor deficit students from systemically falling behind academically each year. The purpose of this study was to explore instructional strategies secondary special education teachers of an inclusive setting use to assist students who struggle with notetaking due to visual or visual-motor deficits known or unknown as convergence insufficiency. Using the universal design for learning theoretical …

Teachers' Perceptions Of Their Ability To Provide Equitable Instructional Practices In High-Poverty Schools, Angela Mary Davis
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Equitable instructional practices have a positive impact on the academic achievement of students living in high poverty. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore teachers’ perceptions of their abilities to implement equitable instructional practices in high-poverty schools. Gorski’s equity literacy framework was the approach used to guide the study and address the research question. In this qualitative study, teachers in high-poverty schools were asked to perceive and describe their abilities to implement equitable instructional practices. Data were collected through semistructured interviews with 10 K-8 teachers of high-poverty schools located in the Southeastern region of the United States. …
Elementary Teachers' Use Of Evaluation To Guide Their Instructional Practices, Lajoi Gardner
Elementary Teachers' Use Of Evaluation To Guide Their Instructional Practices, Lajoi Gardner
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Well-designed research-based evaluation instruments have been implemented in school districts in a southwest U.S. state; however, it was unclear how elementary teachers were using an evaluation instrument as a formative tool to guide their instructional practices. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to understand how elementary teachers’ perceptions and experiences influenced their use of an evaluation instrument to improve their instructional practices. Marzano’s focused teacher evaluation model provided the conceptual framework for the study. The research questions focused on elementary teachers’ perceptions and experiences with using an evaluation instrument as a guide for their instructional practices. A purposeful …
Case Study Of Teachers’ Instructional Practices Among Eighth Grade Students With Disabilities, Lashaundon Perkins
Case Study Of Teachers’ Instructional Practices Among Eighth Grade Students With Disabilities, Lashaundon Perkins
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Academic achievement of students relies heavily on a student’s reading proficiency. The college-and career-readiness reading test results of 8th grade North Carolina students did not meet expectations during the 2016-2017 school year. The overall reading performance of 8th grade North Carolina students who have shown achievement at or above proficient was 30%, which is below the national average. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the instructional practices of special education teachers in a low performing school in the eastern region of North Carolina. Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory provided the conceptual framework for this study. Research questions addressed …

A Qualitative Study Of Instructional Practices For English Learners In Elementary Mathematics, Katie Corinne Baum
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
It is important for elementary teachers to provide quality mathematics instruction for English Learner (EL) students to close achievement gaps. Elementary mathematics teachers in the Keystone School District were struggling to implement instructional practices for EL students in mathematics as evidenced by communications with teachers, administrators, and documents from the state-required action plan. The purpose of this study was to explore the instructional practices and the challenges encountered by teachers related to providing mathematics instruction for ELs. The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol Model served as the conceptual framework. The research questions focused on the instructional practices that teachers were implementing …
Mathematical Instructional Practices And Self-Efficacy Of Kindergarten Teachers, Tammy Schillinger
Mathematical Instructional Practices And Self-Efficacy Of Kindergarten Teachers, Tammy Schillinger
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A local urban school district recently reported that 86% of third graders did not demonstrate proficiency on the Math Standardized Test, which challenges students to solve problems and justify solutions. It is beneficial if these skills are developed prior to third grade. Students may be more academically successful if kindergarten teachers have moderate to high self-efficacy when teaching lessons that focus on justifying solutions. Bandura's self-efficacy theory was incorporated into this study as the conceptual framework lens. Research questions were designed to investigate kindergarten teachers' instruction in mathematics that focused on justifying solutions, their self-efficacy in challenging students to justify …

Rural High School Mathematics Instructional Practices And Students' Academic College Readiness, Luajean Erna Bryan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Rural high school graduates in the United States lag behind in college math preparedness, therefore prompting researchers to identify instructional practices that would advance student math performance. This quantitative research study investigated specific teacher practices and their correlation with student gains in college math preparedness on the American College Test (ACT). Data were collected using a teacher questionnaire to quantify the level of reform practices among a sample of six math teachers and used ACT pre and posttests to assess 312 11th grade students' gains in college math readiness in a public rural high school in Southeast Tennessee. Correlation analysis …
