Purpose. The purpose of this study was to investigate an instrument, the Cross-cultural Understandings in Multicultural Education (CUME) Assessment, which was devised to measure third grade students' understandings of selected crosscultural/ multicultural concepts. These concepts were derived from a cultural anthropological perspective of human similarities and differences.
Procedures. The study examined the reliability and validity of the CUME Assessment, a multiple-choice, domain referenced test consisting of twenty-one items based on seven instructional objectives. Third grade students, whose teachers indicated on a Teacher Questionnaire having taught these objectives as a part of the formal curriculum, were assessed. Three instruments were administered …

Purpose: Children of divorced parents seem to have more divorces when they themselves marry. I f an "intergenerational transmission" effect exists, differences in attitude should exist even before marriage. What differences in attitude exist, if any, between the offspring of divorced parents and of intact-happy parents? Procedure: The Anacleto Marital Attitude Inve ntory (AMAI) was developed with 92 Likert- scaled items . Internal consist e ncy (.88), Reliability (.81), and Concurrent Validity (.65) for the total test as well as for 8 subscales we r e judged satisfac t o ry. Higher scores show more healthy attitudes. The purpose of this study was to determine if private/parochial schools were interested in participating in a voucher plan where all students are given a cash voucher to spend at the school of their choice. If they were willing to participate, the study identified the controls the schools were willing to tolerate and still participate. If they were opposed to a voucher plan from the outset, the study identified the reasons for their reluctance to participate.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the degree of influence from various factors on a student's decision to enroll in a food service-related course and whether these factors were affected by post high school graduation plans.
Procedure: Sixty-nine percent of the Regional Occupational Centers/ Programs teachers and one section of students instructed by each teacher completed the survey instruments. The questionnaire items queried the respondents concerning demographic information as well as the degree of influence of various person- and job-related factors.
Findings and Conclusions: Results of this investigation revealed that the responding student population had a strong …

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to clarify and analyze the relationship between large school districts and the press in California.
Procedures: Two similar surveys were developed for this study, one for superintendents and public information officers and one for editors and education reporters. Purpose. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the relationships that exist between current practices employed by California school districts to provide inservice training for elementary principals and pupil academic achievement. Procedure. The extreme high and low school districts with respect to pupil academic achievement were identified using 1981 district scores and comparison score bands for the California Assessment Program, grade six test. The superintendents in all of the districts and all principals in a systematically selected sample of those districts were surveyed by mail to determine practices, policies and perceptions pertaining to inservice training for elementary principals. This dissertation examined the relationship between locus of control (for all, positive, and negative events) and rate of academically engaged learning time (for mathematics and language arts separately and together) and how this relationship is affected by the sex, ethnicity, socio-economic status and achievement of the student and the grade and instructional organization of the school. The subjects for this investigation consisted of 56 fourth grade students at two year-around schools in Watsonville, California. This sample included the following approximate proportions: males-60%; low socio-economic status (qualified for free or reduced lunches) SO%; and Hispanic-60%. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions of California police practitioners and postsecondary law enforcement educators regarding current and future curriculum issues. Through this method, a new core curriculum model was developed. Additonally, the study investigated which philosophical orientation should be used in the fuure to teach law enforcement courses at the postsecondary level.
Procedures: The sample population of police practitioners, included 380 officers from 15 California police agencies. Also, 23 educators from California State Universities, who offer a law enforcement major leading to a bachelor's degree, were sampled. A modified mail survey, with a researcher …

Purpose of the study was-to evaluate performance effectiveness of administrators by faculty in selected National League for Nursing accredited programs. The research questions focused on congruity in perceptions of Performance Effectiveness in relation to Performance of selected administrative activities, Importance of the activities, Administrative Styles used by the administrator to achieve departmental goals, and maintaining Institutional Milieu.
The modified DECA (Departmental Evaluation of Chairperson Activities) was used for data collection. Data analyses were based on 478 DECA-Faculty Reactions to Chairperson Activities and 60 DECA-Chairperson Information Forms.

Purpose: The purposes of this study were to: 1) provide information which will facilitate the development of meaningful and realistic internships for fashion merchandising students, 2) determine the degree of agreement between retailers and educators concerning internships, and 3) determine if different types of retailers have different attitudes toward internship experiences. The study examines the effect that implementation of California State Law establishing School Attendance Review Boards has had on Junior High and Middle School Students in the Central Valley of California. The legislation deals with students who have problems of truancy and student misconduct. Most authorities on exercise agree that regular vigorous endurance type activity results in aerobic fitness (7, 10, 17, 36, 37). Rhythmic repetitive and dynamic activities using large muscle groups would include such aerobic exercise as Jogging, walking, swimming, cycling, tennis, basketball, racquetball, and soccer (1, 7, 10, 17). Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine support for the bilingual education program. Specifically, this study focused on parents whose children are in bilingual education classes in the elementary grades and sought to explore the relationship between support and several independent variables. They were: (a) socioeconomic status of the parents, (b) parental involvement with the program, and (c) parent influence in the program.
