Academic Entitlement And The Association Of Attitude Toward Learning And Perseverance For Goals, And Identity Processes., Samantha K. Jones

The purpose of this study was to examine associations between academic entitlement and attitude toward learning, perseverance for goals, and identity processes. Participants included 364 undergraduate students, ages 18-29. Results revealed that overall, participants in this study reported low academic entitlement. Nevertheless, students who reported higher academic entitlement reported lower attitude toward learning (mastery approach), and lower perseverance for goals (consistency of interest, perseverance of effort). In addition, students who reported higher academic entitlement were more likely to score higher on diffused, foreclosed, and moratorium identity processes (ideological and interpersonal domains). Historically, mathematics education has consisted of rote learning through workbooks and textbooks, leaving students with the thought that mathematics is dull, unimaginative, and inaccessible. Educators have looked for ways to change these views of students, one current suggestion being through the integration of children's literature in the mathematics curriculum. To further investigate this suggestion, the study "Integrating Children's Literature in an Elementary School Mathematics Classroom" was conducted in a 3rd grade Johnson City Classroom to determine how students reacted to the integration of literature in a mathematics classroom.

Test anxiety has been a problem for many individuals not only in the workforce, but also in many schools and colleges (Driscoll, Evans, Ramsey & Wheeler 2009). According to Driscoll et al., when compared to high school students and the general public (17%), nursing students are shown to have over double (55-60%) the rate of moderately high to high test anxiety. The purpose of this paper is to understand ADHD stimulant abuse among college students. Adderall and other ADHD stimulants are socially acceptable in the college student community. Students believe Adderall is safe, harmless, and beneficial, but the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) classifies Adderall, along with other ADHD stimulants, as Schedule II substances because of their addictive nature. Among the average college student population, Adderall is not perceived as a dangerous Schedule II drug such as cocaine, oxycotin, opium, or morphine. Instead, Adderall is seen as a way to “perk up” and become or stay alert. College students rationalize …
