This portfolio explores a new course on product design visualization introduced in the product design minor program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Due to the nature of the diverse student group pursuing the minor program, this course adapts flexible teaching and assessment methods that foster inclusivity and enrichment.

The current portfolio examines the second iteration of a new course in the Department of Communication Studies, Comm 454: Communication and Health Disparities. The primary goal of the course is for students to understand what health disparities are and how communication (on micro, meso, and macro levels) helps to create, reinforce, and improve these health disparities. Student learning was measured through the evaluation of the above course objective through four assignments: a short reflection paper, 2 teaching lessons, a research paper, and a health disparities communication campaign/intervention. Comm 101: Communication In The 21st Century—A Peer Review Of Teaching Project Benchmark Portfolio, Aaron M. Duncan

This portfolio examines the large lecture basic survey course, Communication 101. This course uses a combination of large lecture sections led by one faculty member and small recitation sections led by three graduate assistants. The goal of this project is to enhance learning and create higher levels of student engagement. Student learning was measured through a pretest and posttest, as well as through self-evaluation of their knowledge and skills. Additionally, graduate teaching assistants completed an evaluation of the course by providing an assessment of the course’s learning objectives and of course activities. Results showed that student learning was taking place. …
