The goal of this project was to explore bilingual kindergartener's emergent views about writing and their concepts of the functions of writing in a school setting context. This study focuses on the importance of not underestimating literacy knowledge or the intellect of English language learners. In this descriptive study, six bilingual kindergarten students, instructed in their primary language, Spanish, were asked to respond to several guided questions while and after viewing four videotaped sequences.

The purpose of this project was to explore the dynamics of project based learning (PBL) methodology and how this approach intersects with situated learning and aspects of adult identity negotiation, an important issue in second language acquisition. Another purpose of this thesis is to assess the effectiveness of PBL for adult learners by reviewing literature related to PBL and presenting data that was collected in the context of a PBL project carried out by adult ESL students.

This study will serve as a guideline for adult second-language learners who want to strengthen the effectiveness of self-directed learning outcomes or develop their self-directed learning strategies. Through the understanding of learning factors, fossilized language elements, and their own learning strategies, learners will be more confident and motivated to pursue their personal second-language acquisition goals and aspirations. These strategies are designed to help Taiwanese second-language learners.
