An Investigation Of The Status, Functions, And Practices Of High School Homerooms In Virginia, Anne Hill Hayes

From then on the growth was rapid.

The homeroom appeared and developed with amazing rapidity because it seemed to offer a solution to the strong demand for a type of education which would include proper emphasis upon important physical, social, emotional, and spiritual factors largely ignored in traditional instruction.

Since its …

Current Practices In Selection, Instruction, And Supervision Of School Bus Drivers In Virginia, William Gibbs Thomas Jan 1966

Current Practices In Selection, Instruction, And Supervision Of School Bus Drivers In Virginia, William Gibbs Thomas

Master's Theses

The transportation of school children to and from school has not always been the states' responsibility. The attitude of most educators before 1850 was that if students really wanted to come to school they would come even if they had to travel many miles. This attitude of the educated few did not lend itself to a tax-supported pupil transportation system.

The importance of the school bus driver cannot be overemphasized. It is the bus driver's responsibility to get the children to and from safely. There is considerable evidence that very few accidents result from mechanical failure of the bus; most …

As these responsibilities increased, it became necessary for him to share these duties with an assistant. This assistant began taking over routine activities mostly those of a clerical nature. As the schools continued to grow he began assuming duties in the realm of supervision and administration. To be effective he needed to be as dedicated, as perceptive and as well trained as the principal himself.

Some Aspects Of Financing Interscholastic Athletic Programs In Group Ii High Schools In Virginia, Ellett R. Mcgeorge

Master's Theses

Any consideration of the high school athletic program would seem to be incomplete without attention being given to the method of its financing.

"Since athletics first came into our nation's school system, means and ways and have been sought by which they could be financed." Great strides have been made in raising the status of the athletic program. However, there remain schools that are confronted with the continuous problem of financing their total interscholastic athletic programs. In that face of rising costs of athletic equipment and operation there is tendency to reduce the activities of the interscholastic program and place …
