To best understand where a field is going, it is important first to know where it has been. This article provides an overview of where the field of human performance technology (HPT) came from, what themes and trends have occurred in the ISPI literature since the field's beginning in 1962 through the present, and what gaps are apparent in the HPT research.

In 2002, James Klein published a study based on a content analysis of research articles in PIQ from 1997 through 2000. That study was aimed at determining how much empirical research was being reported in HPT and what the focus of that research was. Klein found that only about one third of the articles published in PIQ represented empirical research. The current study replicates Klein's research for the years of 2001 through 2005. The E²R2P team employs a unique interdisciplinary approach to facilitate faculty adoption of research-based educational strategies across the engineering curriculum. As part of a "Sounding Board" of potential adopters, faculty will provide guidance, review components of redesigned courses, and participate in a series of workshops highlighting a variety of problem- and project-based instructional strategies1, 2.

An analysis of books and book chapters cited is included, as well as a list of what books and book chapters are cited most frequently. Research Priorities In Performance Technology: A Delphi Study, Linda Huglin, Liz Johnsen, Anthony Marker

Although a great deal has been written about the need for more research in the HPT field, specific research questions have not recently been identified. This study used a three-round Delphi approach to identify research questions of interest to experts in the field, resulting in 100 questions that were classified under ten categories. Participants prioritized the research categories and rated each question as to its importance to the field. Summary statistics for all categories and questions are presented.

In their creation of online courses, instructional designers may inadvertently overlook the needs of learners with disabilities. However, creating accessible online courses isn’t merely a "nice to do" activity; it is required by federal law. Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973, for example, specifically prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities by any federal agency receiving federal funds; this includes colleges and universities.

The number of workers with disabilities is expected to increase substantially within the next few years, particularly with the return of veterans wounded in combat. The increase in training programs that are delivered online requires that accessibility features be put in place to accommodate this group of workers. The purpose of this interactive session is to demonstrate techniques that enhance accessibility of online training materials via a "makeover" of an existing online course.
