Developing And Applying An Information Literacy Rubric To Student Annotated Bibliographies, Erin E. Rinto

Objective – This study demonstrates one method of developing and applying rubrics to student writing in order to gather evidence of how students utilize information literacy skills in the context of an authentic assessment activity. The process of creating a rubric, training scorers to use the rubric, collecting annotated bibliographies, applying the rubric to student work, and the results of the rubric assessment are described. Implications for information literacy instruction are also discussed.

Sustaining The Vision: Best Practices For Design, Implementation And Service, Susan Mcmullen, Betsy Peck Learned

Librarians from Roger Williams University developed a model of best practices for planning library space projects while planning the first phase of the Learning Commons. They visited and gathered data from 18 libraries with recently-reconfigured spaces, tapped into their collective wisdom, and distilled it to a list of pragmatic, universally applicable best practices. Using examples from their own project and those of the libraries they visited, the presentation describes how to lay the groundwork for planning, incorporate the lessons learned, and achieve buy-in for the project.

S.R. Ranganathan's five laws of library science are examined for the implications they hold for determining access services policies. A number of theoretical and practical problems are discussed in light of the insights gained from Ranganathan's laws.
