This dissertation examines the legal literacy of school administrators and the lack of mandated training regarding school law, specific to the First Amendment. With continual changes in education school administrators can function as the change agent for schools through the lens of self-efficacy. This dissertation is organized into three bodies of work. Paper 1 is a review of literature specific to legal literacy and First Amendment rights in schools. Additional research on self-efficacy theory is presented as a potential catalyst for increasing legal literacy in schools. Introduction: Medical improvisation is the use of theatrical-based games to develop interpersonal communication skills (ICS), including those applicable to telehealth communication, among health care professionals.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine if implementing a medical improvisation-based workshop via a virtual classroom within an upper-level undergraduate nutrition and dietetics counseling course improved students’ self-assessed perceived capability of the following characteristics required as ICS for telehealth communication: becoming a better listener, becoming more observant of nonverbal communication, responding in the moment, increasing self-confidence in presenting, and becoming a better team member/collaborator. In almost 60 years, the requirements of educators to be knowledgeable about the law have barely changed. The concept of legal literacy first appeared in educational research in 1963 by Nolte & Linn. Their original work recommended that state legislatures and boards of education mandate legal coursework as part of every teacher certification program (Nolte & Linn, 1963). Forty-five years later, Gadja (2008) researched all 50 states, and only one required a law class as part of their teacher preparation programs. The most current research indicates that teachers still have little knowledge of educational law (Summers et al., 2021).

The Effect Of Self-Reflection On Relative Student Success In Undergraduate Calculus 1, Kevin Shryock

This thesis examines the effect of completion and self-reflection credit on multiple aspects of undergraduate student success in Calculus 1. Specifically, this study assessed the validity of a plug-and-play classroom framework utilizing a combination of a holistic rubric and corresponding worksheets to direct students’ attention towards their conceptual understanding of material and written work, all while removing the pressure of performance grades on all but four summative assessments. By comparing students’ relative performance on these summative assessments, as well as students’ responses on regular surveys, this study found that students who chose to forego performance grades in favor of completion …
