" Although our society has become increasingly preoccupied with eating and weight, it is only relatively recently that publicity has been given to eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia" (Hendrick, 1985, p. 275). For purposes of this paper, the author is only going to deal with bulimia. Bulimia has primarily been a concern among college-age women, but over the past decade the prevalence of the disorder has increased dramatically among adolescent females (Omizo & Omizo, 1992).
