The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of direct instruction in story grammar on the reading and writing achievement of second graders. Three aspects of story grammar (character, setting, and plot) were taught with direct instruction using the concept development technique of deep processing. Deep processing which included (a) visualization (the drawing of pictures), (b) verbalization (the writing of sentences), (c) the attachment of physical sensations, and (d) the attachment of emotions to concepts was used to help students make mental connections necessary for recall and application of character, setting, and plot when constructing meaning in reading …

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between student and faculty ethnicity and possible effects upon student ratings of faculty performance in an urban community college setting characterized by extensive ethnic diversity.

Minimum Student Performance Standards in Computer Literacy and Science were passed by the Florida Legislature through the Educational Reform Act of 1983. This act mandated that all Florida high school graduates receive training in computer literacy. Schools and school systems were charged with the task of determining the best methods to deliver this instruction to their students.

The purpose of this investigation was to examine the characteristics of the successful small black-owned enterprises in Dade County, Florida. A descriptive and correlational research approach was employed in this study, in which there were two phases: an initial questionnaire study of 353 small black-owned businesses, and an interview study of 20 randomly selected most successful and 20 least successful small black entrepreneurs.
The main conclusions in the study are (1) the characteristics are not the same for all successful small black-owned firms, (2) success factors are not identical for all small black-owned firms, (3) the majority of small black-owned …
