Development of the open-systems view of organizations has made participative management an attractive alternative to traditional bureaucratic methods of managing. The purpose of this dissertation was to determine whether it is possible to generalize about the effects of participative management. Given empirical generalizations, it would be possible to make recommendations for practicing school administrators.

Utilizing the framework of Locke and Schweiger (1979), the author took a purposefully selected cross-section of studies on participative management. The empirical evidence was analyzed in four subsections: laboratory studies, correlational field studies, multivariate experimental field studies, and controlled experimental studies. The purpose of this study was to examine the history of manual training within the Seventh-day Adventist educational system and determine its relationship to the development of manual training in the public schools of America. Consideration was also given to the present status of manual training within the Adventist system.

The research design was historical in form, and data were gathered covering three special areas: (a) the development of manual training in American public schools; (b) the establishment of Seventh-day Adventist education; and (c) the present status of technology education (the great-grandchild to manual training) within Adventist secondary education.

A Status Study And Critical Analysis Of Present And Future Program Goals For Industrial Arts In The State Of Nebraska, Kennard G. Larson

This study was conducted to describe the present status and the desired future of the industrial arts programs in the public schools in the State of Nebraska. Information concerning program goals was obtained from a descriptive survey sample of industrial arts teachers, secondary school principals, school board presidents, and industrial arts teacher educators. Two dimensions were examined: the importance of 23 program goal statements as perceived in the present industrial arts program, and the importance of the same goal statements as perceived for the industrial arts program in the future.

A Comparison Of Principals' And Teachers' Perceptions Of Administrative Performance In Iowa Senior High Schools, Darrell D. Druvenga

The major purpose of this study was to determine if the perceptions of Iowa senior high school principals and those of their teachers differed significantly when applied to 11 categories of administrative performance. The study also describes the relationship between principals' willingness to participate in 11 hypothetical in-service programs and the assessment principals make of their performance in 11 categories of administrative performance.

The study utilized the Educational Administrator Effectiveness Profile (EAEP) instrument to assess perceptions of administrative performance. The instrument is produced by Human Synergistics, an international management consulting firm, under a grant from the Danforth Foundation.

This research attempted to study the predictive validity of three kindergarten readiness skill areas on second grade achievement. The kindergarten readiness measures were Visual Motor Readiness, Speech Readiness, and the score from the Cognitive Abilities Test. The measure of achievement was the Iowa Test-of Basic Skills Composite score. Predictive validity studies have the potential of identifying early - those students who will fail or experience academic difficulties. Accurate predictions of later academic achievement are of paramount importance to determine what areas in kindergarten are necessary to successfully achieve academically.
