An Exploration Of Dress Codes In Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Programs, Brumbaugh Klaire

This investigation utilized a qualitative approach to explore dress code policy in twelve Midwestern master’s in speech-language pathology programs. After a written policy review, the clinic directors associated with each program were interviewed. Following the interview, the clinic directors sent a survey to the graduate students to complete (n = 74). Findings suggest that the dress codes in speech pathology should consider concepts related to client perception, discipline, financial responsibility, and safety when considering their dress codes. Information related to how to use the findings to support all students is discussed.

The present study focused on the effects of portfolio-based instruction in the composition classroom on college freshmen's final examination scores, course grades, and attitudes toward writing. The experimental and control groups each consisted of five freshman composition classes on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University during the Spring 1991 semester. Pre- and post-measures of students' attitudes toward writing were obtained. Students in both the experimental and control groups sat for a common final examination which consisted of two impromptu essays. The period of transition from a frontier university library to a modern, progressive institution is examined in terms of staff, buildings, collection, services, and administrative and financial support. At the end of this period this Nebraska library had a reputation in excess of that indicated either by financial support or collection size. Timely administrative support and pioneering professional librarians developed initial procedures in cataloging, reference, and interlibrary cooperation, which made the Library at the University of Nebraska one of the outstanding research libraries in the West.
