A state level survey was conducted to examine interest regarding the integration of a neuropsychological perspective into school psychology practice among practicing school psychologists in Washington State. Potential respondents were contacted through e-mail and invited to participate in the original survey developed by the author. The 25 question survey sought to answer questions regarding neuropsychological training, attitudes and beliefs toward the incorporation of a neuropsychological perspective, current professional practices, interaction with neuropsychologists through referral and consultation, and potential barriers to the incorporation of a neuropsychological perspective. Student Rights: U.S. Supreme Court Cases-- Their Implications For And Implementation In Washington Schools, Angela Dawn Ramsey

The relationship between national litigation and state legislation was studied. Seven areas of student rights were used in categorizing Washington State's educational laws and policies, and twenty-three precedent-setting United States Supreme Court cases. The results showed support for the hypothesis that national litigation impacts state legislation in educational policy-making. Implications for and impact that this has upon the future are discussed.

The opinions of school principals and superintendents were assessed concerning federal and state paperwork requirements. A questionnaire was used to obtain the opinions of eighty school administrators. The results showed that school administrators expend a considerable amount of time completing federal and state paperwork. The cost of completing paperwork was found to represent a large portion of the education budget in Washington State. Related problems are discussed.

The nature of the middle school in the state of Washington and its conformance to the middle school concept was studied. Eighty-four of the state's ninety-two middle school principals reported on programs and offerings in their schools. The study indicated that Washington middle schools conform favorably to the concept in all major areas except grading practices and athletic programs. The schools recognize a developmental stage of transescence and minister to it through child-child- centered rather than subject-centered programs. Further study is recommended to compare the middle school with the junior high school in the state of Washington.

Newspapers and school districts form a tentative partnership in the dissemination of education news. Subjects preferred by readers have not been reflected in actual education news coverage. Emphasis on utility information at the expense of in-depth writing about what is going on in public education has been standard practice. Content analysis shows that while quantity of education news seems reasonable, the quality of that news fails to transmit to readers the substance of what teachers and children are accomplishing in the public schools.

Teachers' reactions to an implemented competency based education program were evaluated. Twenty-four high school teachers were asked to fill out a questionnaire concerning competency based education. It was concluded that teachers understand competency based education and its components. The majority of teachers performed tasks related to competency based education. Teachers did not change their course content nor evaluation methods to accommodate competency based education. Teachers have varied opinions on the virtues of competency based education and their major concern is record keeping processes. Implications of the competency based education innovation arc discussed.

This paper focused on the public school administrator in Washington State, whose primary function was that of chief business official. The study was designed to produce an overview of his educational role. Broad areas examined included his distribution, status, personal characteristics and qualifications, job responsibilities, salary, and certification attitudes. Recommendations were concerned with suggested guidelines for the preparation and selection of school business officials, the establishment of certification requirements, and additional areas for related or new research.

This study examines the effects of school reorganization in Upper Kittitas County on school costs, program, and construction. It determines the effect consolidation had on the attitudes of school district patrons, and whether pre-consolidation promises had been kept. This study determines that costs have risen, pupil-teacher ratios have improved, curriculum offerings have expanded, and new school building has occurred. The study finds little change in the attitude of school patrons, and determines some promises were kept, but many were not.

The Intermediate building of the Wapato School District administered the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills twice during the school year. The primary purpose of this testing was to measure the annual growth in skills of each student. The ITBS was used to measure those skills gained between the fall and spring testing. The results of the comparison of the spring and fall testing reflected that students were not gaining a school year's advance on the test results for a school year's instruction. This paper presents a survey of the scheduling, staffing and housing procedures for elementary instrumental music in selected large suburban school districts surrounding the City of Seattle, Washington. Upon comparison with other available studies and a similar survey of the Highline Public Schools, basic recommendations were made for the implementation of three alternate plans for a comprehensive elementary instrumental music program in the Highline Public Schools. It was the purpose of this study to describe and to explore the factors in the development and the planning and organization of appropriate learning tasks in the field experience for the Central Washington State College Pre-Professional Students within the Ellensburg Public Schools.

The new experience for these freshmen raised the question: "What are appropriate learning tasks or competencies that these freshmen should or should not have?" Thus this study: (1) examined various learning tasks; (2) developed a rationale for appropriate competencies; and (3) developed and listed appropriate tasks in behavioral terms for these freshmen.

It was the purpose of this study to compare the percentile scores of the Metropolitan Readiness Test of first grade children in Wenatchee School District No. 246 who have had kindergarten with those first grade children in Wenatchee School District No. 246 who have not had kindergarten. The following factors were considered in this study: Chronological age, sex, and total percentile score. This data was taken from the Metropolitan Readiness Tests over a two-year period, 1966-67 and 1967-68.

Educators recognize the contributions motion picture films make in the classroom learning situation. However, the problem of determining budget expenditures necessitates a continual evaluation of the utility of specific equipment. This study was an attempt to ascertain the past and future preferences for eight millimeter and sixteen millimeter motion picture projectors. For purposes of this investigation, the following null hypothesis was used: Given a hypothetical grant, there would be no significant difference in preference for purchasing eight millimeter motion picture projectors over sixteen millimeter motion picture projectors by first-class school districts in the state of Washington.
