The positive impact of an effective school administrator cannot be understated. Research on leadership practices highlights the efficacy of distributed leadership for positive student outcomes and teacher satisfaction especially after the challenges of the pandemic. However, further research is required to understand how principals implement distributed leadership practices and the differences across school levels. The purpose of the study was to examine the engagement of elementary and secondary school administrators in the State of Washington in distributed leadership practices. We are witnessing a shift in how some students both identify themselves and are welcomed into our schools and communities. The experiences of students who identify as gender and sexuality diverse can vary distinctly depending upon geography, individual, peer, and community factors. Most impactful in these experiences are the structures, culture, and support systems that individual schools and districts can intentionally put into place to promote inclusion, safety, and voice for this population of students. This research was set to find the best practices for both the hiring and retaining of teachers of color in the public education preK-12 grade system. This qualitative research included interviews from district leaders as well as teachers of color from around the state of Washington. This two-fold approach allowed for the comparing and contrasting of the experiences of teachers of color with the strategies school districts have implemented to support the recruiting, hiring, and retaining of a diverse teaching force. The National School Lunch Program that began in 1946 formalized local and federal government's role in overseeing school meals. Since then, students have had access to food for sale and also, those who qualify for free and reduced lunch, at no cost. The separation of students based on their ability to pay for meals has led to stigma and, in some cases, shaming. In some cases students have gone without food to avoid stigma. While students accumulated lunch debt, adults took measures to reach families to help them qualify for free meals. When schools closed in 2020, schools changed the …
