Art in the elementary school encompasses all the fields of creative expression. There should be equal emphasis on dancing, music, poetry, drama, writing, painting, construction, and the crafts. I. Importance and Statement of the Problem
During the past fifty years secondary schools have made rapid advances both in enrollments and in the curriculum. In 1890 these schools were still the schools of the few, even though their enrollments had begun to grow rapidly. The high schools have continued their rapid growth until today today they present an extremely wide range of individual differences in such areas as interests, abilities and needs.
