A Research Project To Investigate The Instructional Preferences Of Alternatively Certified Career And Technical Education Teachers, Jessica Deceuster Aug 2021

A Research Project To Investigate The Instructional Preferences Of Alternatively Certified Career And Technical Education Teachers, Jessica Deceuster

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

Industry career workers that have transitioned to teaching within the education sector have the knowledge base to develop “what” needs to be taught in Career and Technical Education (CTE) curriculum; however, they do not have adequate knowledge about instructional strategies or “how” the curriculum content should be taught. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to document the instructional strategies, techniques, and coursework that were taught through the Utah State University Career and Technical Education Academy, to Career and Technical Education teachers that have transitioned from industry to education, and to assess how well the instructional strategies, techniques, and coursework …

The Usu Tree Inventory Website: A Case Study Of An Interactive Online Woody Plant Education Resource, Benjamin W. Harris

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The USU tree inventory website is an interactive, online tree education resource that I developed to allow students and community members to locate, identify and learn about trees on the USU campus. Students in two USU courses that teach woody plant material used the website during one semester and were surveyed about their experience. Less than half of the students accessed the website, but those that did found it useful as a supplement to traditional instruction. Most students were likely to recommend the website to another person and to use the website in the future.

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of the Utah State University concurrent enrollment program to the achievement (GPA), recruitment, and retention of program participants after joining Utah State University.

Three administrative approaches to the management of concurrent enrollment programs were identified for the purpose of this study: Level One, Level Two, and Level Three. Level One involved high school teachers who taught and graded the concurrent enrollment program courses. In Level Two, high school teachers taught the courses, but University professors prepared exams and graded the papers. In Level Three, teaching, exam preparation, and paper grading …

Life Span Learning And Utah State University, J. Clark Ballard Apr 1978

Life Span Learning And Utah State University, J. Clark Ballard

Faculty Honor Lectures

The recent Kellogg Life Span Learning Grant has focused national attention on Utah State University as a model for life span learning. Historically, Extension and at least the rudiments of life span learning, have been a part of Utah State University since its founding in 1888. In 1896, the State passed the Cazier Bill which appropriated $1,500 to conduct a Farmers Institute in each county at least once a year (Ricks 1938). Such activities were mostly conducted on an informal basis until 1911 when Luther M. Winsor, Instructor of Irrigation, was employed as county agent in the Uintah Basin. This …

The Uses Of Personal Typewriting By Students At Utah State University And Skyview High School, Joseph Henry Wilson May 1973

The Uses Of Personal Typewriting By Students At Utah State University And Skyview High School, Joseph Henry Wilson

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The changing concept of the uses of the typewriter has had an enormous effect on the teaching of typewriting. In addition to the vocational objective, the personal-use objective has been added. Personal-use typewriting has as its goal the material that the student is likely to typewrite for himself; vocational typewriting is focused on what others want typed for them. The distinguishing characteristic in teaching the two is therefore not the skill accomplishment so much as the kind of material involved (13).

A study released by Hosler and Maske (4) seems to substantiate the reasoning that students in a personal-use typing …

The History Of Men's Intramural Sports At Utah State University, David A. Turner May 1971

The History Of Men's Intramural Sports At Utah State University, David A. Turner

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The history of men's intramurals at Utah State University has been one of improbable beginnings with unrecognized goals . It has grown to a program of very positive beginnings, and very recognizable goals.

This was done by implementing far reaching and forward looking ideas. Of Course, there were many times during the course of the departmental history when miscalculations were made; but in general, they were for the best.

The program now encompases three campus-wide leagues with some thirty to sixty teams, depending upon the sport.

A History Of The Utah State University Elementary Teacher Education Laboratory School, R. Eyre Turner May 1965

A History Of The Utah State University Elementary Teacher Education Laboratory School, R. Eyre Turner

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The Utah State University has had a university controlled elementary teacher education laboratory school since 1928. In that year, the University, then the Utah Agricultural College, leased the Whittier School from the Logan City Board of Education. The Whittier continued to be used until the summer of 1957 when the newly constructed Edith Bowen Laboratory School became the center of elementary teacher education.

Staff members in the Department of Education and other interested people have repeatedly asked questions about the Laboratory School. They have desired to know what factors prepared the way and stimulated its establishment. They have sought to …
