A Study Of Leadership Behaviors In Esports Contexts, Joseph C. Tucker May 2022

A Study Of Leadership Behaviors In Esports Contexts, Joseph C. Tucker

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Soft skills, leadership in particular, are highly sought-after traits for businesses when searching for new employees. Using games as a tool to teach soft skills is fairly well documented. One way that games can do this is by creating a space where learners can practice these skills. Esports in particular seem to be an already existing space where modern, dynamic types of leadership are already practiced. In order to determine if this was indeed the case, I interviewed people who were involved in different levels of esports about the ways they behaved while playing esports. I found that in order …

A=A: A Change In Social Movement Engagement And Leadership Should Equal A Change In Civic Education, Tess Tureson

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

It seems as if almost everything in our world has changed with the introduction of the internet, personal computers, iPhones, and social media. We write emails instead of letters. We listen to podcasts and read articles online instead of buying a newspaper. Presidents communicate with the world on Twitter. The way we engage with politics has entirely changed. Yet, we are still going about civic education in schools the same way, teaching students to give speeches in city council meetings, write letters to their representative, and find current events from traditional news sources. This study offers new statistical evidence that …

Factors Explaining Remote Work Adoption In The United States, Paul A. Hill

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The Rural Online Initiative program at Utah State University Extension supported this quantitative study investigating the factors explaining the process of remote work adoption by organizations in the U.S. Given the potential for remote work with respect to technological advances, shifts in traditional work arrangements, and its impact on organizational/operational efficiency, there was a need to investigate how organizational characteristics and leaders’ perceptions of remote work relate to its adoption. This study was guided by Rogers’ theory of diffusion of innovations where research objectives were to (1) determine where organizations range in the innovation-decision process of remote work adoption, (2) …

Social Change Engagement And Leadership Development Among College Students, Andrew Harris Aug 2020

Social Change Engagement And Leadership Development Among College Students, Andrew Harris

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Young people are increasingly in the public view as agents of social change. As suggested in the Social Change Model of Leadership Development, those who develop the seven values of socially responsible leadership (consciousness of self, congruence, commitment, common purpose, collaboration, controversy with civility, and citizenship) are prepared to engage in the leadership process by creating positive social change. Findings from this study suggest that the socially responsible leadership value of citizenship was the value most consistently related to social change engagement. Additionally, social generativity, or the desire to leave a legacy for future generations, as well as participating in …

An organization’s leadership theory acts as a collection of primary guiding characteristics which influence its identity and direction. Research Into The Characteristics Of Effective High School Principals: A Case Study Of Leadership Practices Used In The High School Setting, Gregory G. Wilkey May 2013

Research Into The Characteristics Of Effective High School Principals: A Case Study Of Leadership Practices Used In The High School Setting, Gregory G. Wilkey

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

This study came about largely due to my own personal belief in the centrality of the role the high school principal plays in the life of a young adult. I believe most people think of the school principal solely as an administrator who deals with personnel, discipline, facilities, events, transportation, parents, and so forth. While those are some of the responsibilities of a high school principal, I see the role of a high school principal with a much broader perspective. In addition to being an effective school manager, today’s high school principal must be a strong and visionary leader who …

The purpose of this study was to compare the leadership potential of students from upper level division students majoring in Physical Education as compared to students majoring in Recreation. They were the Leadership Ability Evaluation and the Leadership Q-Sort Test, which yielded data in 12 variables.

Leadership In Sports, Gary H. Bliss May 1965

Leadership In Sports, Gary H. Bliss

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Players with leadership ability are persons coaches are constantly striving to find, develop and use in their sports program. Although coaches are groping for the people that possess these qualities, the identification of the qualities of leadership is a very difficult and evasive task. The major problem the coach faces is not having a lack of leadership on his team, but one of identifying the qualities of leadership and then using the person or persons with these recognized characteristics to the advantage of the team and its common goals.

Nelson (31) emphasizes that coaches and physical educators have greatest knowledge …
