Study Requirements And Higher-Level Performance In A Psi Course, Esther Shafer
Study Requirements And Higher-Level Performance In A Psi Course, Esther Shafer
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
This experiment investigated the effects of differential study guide assignments and testing. requirements on higher-level performance in a PSI course. Twenty-six students who were enrolled in an elective psychology course in self-control at the University of the Pacific served as subjects. The taxonomy of educational processes developed by Bloom (1956) served as a guide to writing course materials corresponding to six levels of learning. Two levels of study guide assignments and testing requirements were varied across four groups of students in a multilevel design. The first level was the simplest, in which students were required to complete written . exercises in …
The Effects Of Trained And Untrained Proctors On Student Performance And Satisfaction In A Psi Course, Georganne White-Blackburn
The Effects Of Trained And Untrained Proctors On Student Performance And Satisfaction In A Psi Course, Georganne White-Blackburn
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Among the variety of components comprising the PSI package originally described by Keller (1968) is the use of proctors which permit immediate scoring, tutoring, and personal-social interactions. Recent research has indicated that immediate scoring may not be an essential proctor function. However, personal-social interactions and tutoring may affect student academic performance and consumer satisfaction. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of the personal-social aspect of proctoring. A counter-balanced reversal plus control group design was utilized to investigate the effects of: (a) trained and untrained proctors and (b) trained and untrained proctors who participated in a lottery which was …
A Comparison Of The Relative Effectiveness Of Proctoring And Peer Tutoring Procedures, Juhlin Mary Newkirk
A Comparison Of The Relative Effectiveness Of Proctoring And Peer Tutoring Procedures, Juhlin Mary Newkirk
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Traditional university modes of instruction have been shown to be less effective than. both PSI and peer tutoring procedures. The present study compared the relative effectiveness of proctors and peer tutors in a PSI type course.
Twelve subjects were randomly assigned to the experimental conditions. The within-subject variable was the order of exposure to the teaching. Methods (being proctored, being tutored, or tutoring) and the. between-subject variables were type of teaching method (proctor-ed or peer tutored) and the number of the trial (first or .second test under the assigned teaching condition).
