Psychological, Academic And Demographic Variables Affecting Students’ Academic Achievement Among First Year College Students In Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Alonazi

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

There are many factors that affect academic achievement among first year college students in Saudi Arabia. The aim of this study was to improve our understanding of academic achievement of first year college students in Saudi Arabia by investigating the relationship between a selection of demographic, academic, and psychological variables and their effects on first-year students’ GPA. All first-year students admitted to the King Saud University in fall 2016 or spring 2017 were invited to complete a self-report survey. 1457 students have completed and submitted the survey. Effects Of Peer Mentoring On The Achievement And Persistence Of Academically Underprepared College Freshmen, Ann Ferden Austad

Effects Of A Home-Based Contingency Program On Improving Academic Performance Of Disadvantaged Middle School Youths, Lupo A. Quitoriano

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Research has demonstrated various ways of improving academic performance of students in public-school classrooms (e.g., Barrish, Saunders, & Wolf, 1969), some of which may be clinically effective but not practical within present school systems. A more practical method is the use of a program involving home-based contingencies. Home-based contingencies simply means that: When children are reinforced by their parents for their appropriate behavior and performance at school, school behavior and performance will improve (Broughton, Barton, & Owen;. 1981). The current study employed a program including home-based contingencies modeled after one created by Shumaker, Hovell, and Sherman (1977), and tested the …

Goal Ranking Congruence And Academic Achievement--Focus : Mexican, Mexican American And Chicano Middle School Students, Their Parents And Teachers, Margarita Dolores Escobedo Wulftange

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The literature sees community members of Mexican ancestry as persons who are denied full participation in matters of school policies and practices. It also cites that forty percent of children of Mexican ancestry who enter school drop out before they graduate from the twelfth grade. In view of these perceptions, this study was designed to examine what relationship existed among three factors: (1) the goals of a school district; (2) student academic achievement as indicated by GPA; and (3) the intra- group variability among Chicano, Mexican American and Mexican students.

This study assumed that if students, parents and teachers prioritized …

Data, Data!! Who Has The Data? : A Relational Study Of Student Achievement, Ability And Occupational Interest Data As Perceived By Students And Their Parents, Norma Jean Gates

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

There appears to be some confusion whether adolescents are able to perceive their personal abilities realistically when aspiring toward career goals. This study will attempt to relate perceptions of students and parents with regard to student data and career choices.

Are career choices of eighth grade students commensurate with personal abilities? The following questions will be studied with reference to perceptions regarding career related items. (1) Will the responses of high and medium to low ability students differ?; (2) Will the responses of male and female students differ?; (3) Will the responses of students having completed the career exploration course …

The Effect Of Mobility On The Scholastic Achievement Of Students At Sacramento Senior High School, James Percy Catterall Jan 1954

The Effect Of Mobility On The Scholastic Achievement Of Students At Sacramento Senior High School, James Percy Catterall

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The hypothesis being tested in this study is that students who move from place to place and attend a variety of schools exhibit a level of school achievement below that attained by students from a more stable population. The particular area of investigation was the relationship between the physical mobility of children on the move to industrial areas, and their school achievement as measured by their scholastic grades.
