Exposure to nature is important for children’s development and the future of the natural world. Children’s time spent outdoors has the potential to increase biophilia, one’s connection with nature, impacting their attitude towards nature and nature conservation over their lifetime. Environmental stewardship begins with an understanding of nature and how one can protect the environment around them. This study sought to explore children’s understandings of nature and stewardship by engaging a small group of preschoolers (n = 6) in photographing nature in their school’s outdoor playspace and asking prompting questions using the photographs in a semi-structured follow-up interview. The effect of megadoses of vitamin B₁₂, folate, and vitamin C on the in vivo methylation of mercuric chloride was studied in guinea pigs. The incorporation of high levels of vitamin B₁₂, folate, and vitamin C resulted in a decrease in both inorganic mercury and methylmercury concentrations in all tissues except the lung and heart compared to controls. However, percent methylmercury levels tended to increase with vitamin treatments.

The relationship of recipe processing time to number of servings, and pan size to number of servings was studied. These relationships are a prerequisite to the development of standard times for production tasks. Two recipe processing steps, panning pork chops and panning and dredging meat cubes were selected; the physical conditions influencing the performance of the steps were identified and controls defined. The variables were 100, 300, 500 and 700 servings and two pan sizes, counter pans (20 x 12 x 2-1/2 inches) and bun pans (18 x 26 x 3/4 inches).

Training and employment needs for food service personnel employed in 20 randomly selected hospitals in East Tennessee were studied. Hospital administrators and heads of dietary departments answered questionnaires and participated in personal interviews.

Shortage of adequately trained food service personnel existed. Thirty percent of the heads of dietary departments had earned baccalaureate degrees, 15 percent were members of the American Dietetic Association; whereas 10 percent had not graduated from high school. Eighty percent had participated in food service training programs prior to current employment with 65 percent participating in the last two years. Five percent of the remaining food service …

A study was made of members of the Greater Knoxville Home Builders Association in regard to their lighting techniques. The purpose was to obtain information about the background and/or training of the builder, the influence on residential lighting and the method used to determine the lighting plan.

A questionnaire was developed by the writer and mailed to 88 members of the Home Builders Association. Responses were received from 48. The data were analyzed by tabulating the responses of the builders to the questions asked.

(2) Appearance and serviceability seem to be important factors in buying hose, but appearance makes a stronger appeal. Introduction: This study is an analysis of the expenditures of approximately 550 Tennessee families classified by age, occupation, and sex groups for clothing purchased, ready-to-wear and made-at-home, during the year 1932 - 1933.
