For the school year 1973-1974, thirteen students at Floyd Elementary School were identified as having specific learning disabilities in grades one and two. They became the experimental group for this study. Another sixteen students in another elementary school in the same district at the same grade levels were also identified as having specific learning disabilities. This group did not have the benefit of a specific learning disabilities program in their school. These students comprised the control group for this study.
