Identification Of Tasks In Home Economics Related Occupations: Clothing; Apparel; And Textile Services, Billie Lou Sands, Dorothy Lee Clausen

The study of task identification in clothing; apparel; and textile services presents statistical correlations of task frequencies obtained by questionnaire in six task clusters for the occupations of fabric specialist; tailor; alternation specialist; dry cleaner; launderer; and clothing apparel and textile service occupations. One-way matrices present; for each occupation; task clusters and tasks within each cluster arranged vertically in descending order of overall mean frequency of performance. The University of Northern Iowa Department of Industrial Technology is involved in a three-phase curriculum development project along with new facility design and construction and implementation of instructional innovations. The report reflects decisions made to date in the process; including the completed phase of developing concept-based cluster courses to serve all majors in the department; including education majors. It is suggested that they be used to augment the creative potential in children in the following ways: by serving as examples of creativity to children; by initiating discussion; and by fostering individual projects for children.
