The Predictive Relationship Of Tutorial Teaching Competencies On Group Instruction Performance For Prospective Special Education Teachers, Sarah Jane Frudden

The purpose of the study was to determine if the skills acquired by trainees in the tutorial experience of the University of Northern Iowa competency-based program act as predictors in the group instruction experience.

This end was accomplished by comparing the scores obtained in the Phase I individual performance criteria against the composite score received in Phase II. A Pearson product moment correlation coefficient analysis was used to determine which individual Phase I criteria correlated significantly with the Phase II composite score. A major purpose of this study was to subject the University of Northern Iowa's special education competencies to a consortium rating for determination of the relative importance of each competency for teachers of the mildly handicapped. A secondary purpose of this study was to determine the generic nature of these competencies.

The subjects involved in the study included Iowa special education teacher trainers; Area Education Agency directors and consultants for multi-disability programs; and special education teachers in multi-disability settings.

In light of the widespread dissatisfaction with marital relationships currently being expressed by couples in the United States, a research study concerning marital adjustment and self-concept was undertaken. Self-concept was chosen to be examined in relation to marital adjustment because of its generally agreed upon importance in interpersonal behavior. A positive relationship between self-concept and marital adjustment would provide a conceptual framework from which to view marital adjustment and would suggest therapeutic approaches for dealing with the problem. The research problem, then, was to examine the relationship between marital adjustment and self-concept.

The Effects Of Teacher Reinforcement On Student Attitudes And Achievement, Ray Douglas Mccollum

This study examined the effects of teacher reinforcement on both reading achievement and students' attitudes toward school. It was hypothesized that students of high reinforcing teachers would achieve greater reading gains and would exhibit more positive attitudes toward school than students of lower reinforcing teachers.

Eight classrooms of second and third-grade students (N=139) and their teachers from a rural school district were involved in this study. Existentialism offers principles which establish a basis for formulating an understanding of man. This philosophy presents perceptions of man which, if considered by counselors, could expand and enrich the counselors' understanding of human existence. The intent of this study was to show that as a result of insight into existential principles and the implementation of these principles in counseling practice, counselors could be better able to facilitate client growth.
