Examining Pre-Service Instructors' Use Of Powerpoint Based On Pre-Service Students' Perceptions: A Mixed Methods Study, Jennifer Fritschi

This study explored pre-service instructors’ use of PowerPoint based on pre-service students’ perceptions, and it identified pre-service students’ perceptions of the efficacy of specific elements of PowerPoint design and delivery. The effectiveness of various elements of PowerPoint design and delivery was based on an extensive literature review and was framed on the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia (Mayer, 2000). The findings of the study identified pre-service instructors’ practices and pre-service students’ perceptions of the effectiveness of specific elements of design and delivery and were then compared with what research and expert literature purported were effective. As a result, schools are required to provide statistical data through standardized test scores to measure adequate yearly progress benchmarks set by each state. To date, a vast amount of research has been conducted on disruptive behavior dis-orders such as conduct disorder (CD), oppositional defiance disorder (ODD), and atten-tion deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD. However, a paucity of research exists in spe-cific areas such as how teachers’ handle students diagnosed with these disorders. This qualitative multiple case study described the integration of the Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI) in three exemplary, yet very dissimilar elementary schools. Studies have shown that ARI has been successful in improving reading in Alabama schools. This study addressed the gap in the literature regarding exactly how this improvement has taken place. An urban school, a rural school, and a suburban school, which have reached an overall benchmark level of 90% or higher, were used for this study. The purpose of this research was to determine the situation and frequency of the use of English oral language by caregivers with young children who are orphaned. Two orphan centers in the state of West Bengal, India were chosen for this study. Interviews and observations of caregivers were used to determine the caregivers’ self-perceptions of their own fluency in English and the amount of English utilized by the caregivers with children in the orphan centers. The staggering rates at which new teachers are leaving the profession, coupled with high rates of teacher attrition, teacher retirements, and increases in student enrollment formed the impetus for this study. Populations such as the immuno-compromised (HIV/AIDS, chemotherapy, and transplant patients) and those with chronic conditions (gastric illness, cirrhosis, on anti-microbial therapy, antacid medication and steroid medications) are more susceptible to food borne illness. Examining differences in food handling practices and personal characteristics of high-risk groups verses the general population is the focus of this research. This study is based on secondary data from an established quantitative survey instrument developed and administered by the 2001 FDA Food Safety Survey. Nurses’ knowledge of diabetes and diabetes management and the identification of differences in knowledge gains after completion of a lecture-based or a computer-based diabetes educational intervention in 175 participants from a variety of health care settings, shifts, and specialties in a large acute-care facility in the Southeastern United States was studied. The second purpose is to determine the relationship between racial identity and risk behaviors. Objective: Previously we have shown that total free living energy expenditure (TEE) and greater fitness was associated with reduced long term weight gain and improved ability to estimate TEE from physical activity (PA) questionnaires. In the current study, it is hypothesized that women will overestimate questionnaire self reported energy expenditure (QEE). Furthermore, weight reduced women who exercise train will be better able to estimate TEE compared to weight reduced women who do not exercise train. Purpose of this study was to compare age and gender differences in hip extension (HE) and flexion (HF) relative (5, 25, and 50% of maximal voluntary contraction [MVC]) and absolute (25 Nm) torque steadiness measured as standard deviation (SD) and coefficient of variation (CV) of torque fluctuations, and torque accuracy (TA). MVC and steadiness were assessed for 20 young (24.0 + 2.2 yrs) and 11 older (65.4 + 4.5 yrs) men and women. MVC was lower for HF, but HE had greater torque fluctuations. For HE, CV of 5% MVC was greater for older compared to young adults and women …
